Blind Vision

What Happened?

By Mike Singleton ๐Ÿ’œ Mikeydred Published 3 years ago โ€ข 3 min read

Introduction

This is inspired by a chapter I read in Charlie Brooker's "Dawn of the Dumb", my "Grammarly Conspiracy" story, and the TV series "Supernatural".

As I put these words down I think I know what is going to happen, I have initial scenarios and explanations but I now need to weave these ideas into some kind of coherent story

Cause

There have been a lot of deaths in this sector recently. Yeah, I know it is a British town but the deaths have all occurred in a few areas, and the police have named those areas a sector for some reason, maybe they think that they are American or something, I don't know.

These are weird, while the location ties them together they look like murders, accidents, and suicides, all having definite physical causes but with no reason and no common thread.

They have all occurred in the last three months, so it is not some long-term situation. It is like something has happened and people are being killed off for some reason or by someone. Again, if there is a serial killer they will have some kind of defining signature but in these fatalities, there is nothing to link them, well not that I can see.

The Fatalities

An old woman was beaten to death in her hall. There was no forced entry and it looked like her assailant had been welcomed in. There was no attempted defence, and her attacker was a known thug who had just been released and was now behind bars again. He told his captors that he had threatened her and she asked him if he would like a cup of tea. He bludgeoned her, left her dead, and then filled his pockets and ran into a police patrol as he left.

A young man had walked out in front of a heavy goods vehicle. The driver said, that the man had looked both ways, before stepping out as though the road was clear. It obviously wasn't.

A middle-aged woman had burned to death in a fire while on her phone and watching television. The fire was caused by a faulty heater, but she must have been aware of what was happening, but she had acted as though there was no fire but had stayed immobile while she was consumed by the inferno.

A man at the beach said he could walk on water and started walking out. The watchers assumed he would be fine and went about their business. He turned up two days later, drowned.

What Happened

Although most of these were not suspicious, there was an investigation into what had happened, with all of them.

Looking at their medical records, they had all been treated for eye problems and had signed up for a trial of a nano eye implant to correct their impaired vision. Our eyes do not see the whole picture and our brain makes up the shortfall to give us a complete picture.

Interviews were held with others who had the implants and some disturbing patterns started to emerge. People said the implants made them see what they wanted or thought they should see.

Most of the time this was not too mad, but one woman said she had nearly been killed when she saw a clear road, which was full of vans, buses and cars.

A man saw he had a winning lottery ticket, it wasn't when he checked properly.

All the fatalities had had the implant.

The murdered woman believed she was seeing someone she knew and loved. The man who walked out in front of the lorry probably saw a clear road.

The immolated woman probably never saw the fire that consumed her. The drowned man probably felt he was walking on water.

That nano chips had started to correct a basic visual issue but then with their inbuilt AI had started to evolve, making their host see what the host wanted, not what was real.

Production was stopped, as these effectively were a drug, enabling the host to see what they most desired.

The chips went underground but people were willing to pay for bootleg copies to experience them.

Are there any out there now?

Do you know anyone who says the world looks perfect to them?

Who knows?

This was an interesting story , it was like watching dragnet episodes. ๐Ÿ‘I was so captivated by the mysteries.

  • Whoaaa Mike, this should be turned into a movie! Such a brilliant concept! Implants making the person see what they wanna see. Wow! How do you even come up with this stuff? This was so fantastic!
