Bad Company

Harmful

By Sudais ZakwanPublished about 6 hours ago 3 min read

Aamir had a habit of listening to his mother’s advice with one ear and letting it pass out of the other. No matter how sincerely she tried to guide him, he paid little attention. The entire family was deeply troubled by his behavior. Whatever little savings the household had, Aamir wasted them on his addiction and unhealthy habits.

Aamir had only one brother, Imran, who was the complete opposite of him. Imran was hardworking, responsible, and sincere. Their father had passed away three years earlier, and after his death, Imran sacrificed his own education to take responsibility for the household. He began searching for work every morning and returned home in the evening after a long day of labor, determined to support his mother and brother.

Unfortunately, Aamir fell into bad company. The influence of his friends dragged him toward addiction, and gradually he became dependent on intoxicants. His family tried countless times to make him understand the consequences of his actions, but their words had no effect. His friends constantly poisoned his mind against his family, and Aamir blindly followed them, believing they were sincere well-wishers.

One night, Aamir returned home very late after drinking. He shouted loudly and demanded food from his mother. With tears in her eyes, she replied gently, “My son, there is nothing to eat at home.”

Hearing this, Aamir lost control of his temper. Hunger and intoxication combined made him furious. He began shouting at his mother and used harsh and disrespectful words. Imran tried to stop him and calm him down, but Aamir refused to listen. In desperation, Imran slapped Aamir to prevent him from further insulting their mother. Watching her sons fight, their mother broke down and cried bitterly.

The next morning, the mother spoke firmly to Aamir and said, “First go and work. Bring money, and then food will be cooked in this house.”

These words enraged Aamir even more. In a fit of anger, he pushed his mother aside and stormed out of the house. When he reached his so-called friends, they demanded money from him. When they realized he had none, they started arguing with him. The argument soon turned violent, and they beat him mercilessly. Injured and helpless, Aamir collapsed unconscious in the street.

By chance, his uncle Karam Dad passed by and found him lying on the ground in a critical condition. Shocked and worried, he immediately took Aamir to the hospital. From there, he informed Aamir’s mother, who became extremely anxious upon hearing the news.

Later that day, Imran returned home holding a box of sweets. His face reflected happiness and relief because he had secured a job in a factory. His mother was overjoyed at this good news. However, when Imran learned about Aamir’s condition, his happiness turned into deep concern.

Aamir had finally begun to pay the price for his bad behavior and harmful company. Lying weak and injured, he realized how wrong he had been. When he returned home, he sincerely apologized to his mother for his rude behavior and poor choices. With a heart full of mercy, his mother forgave him.

After a few days, Aamir took a positive step toward change. He enrolled in a government school and began focusing seriously on his studies. Gradually, he distanced himself from bad company and developed discipline in his life. With time, the family’s financial and emotional conditions improved.

Aamir learned a powerful lesson—that bad company can destroy lives, while good intentions, hard work, and repentance can rebuild them. The pain he suffered became the turning point of his life, guiding him toward a better and more meaningful future.
