Got called in to work another night shift at the Children's library. I really do not mind for that place is really just fun to be in with all the colors and pictures on the walls, as well as the little tables and chairs. These can be hard to clean up depending on what the staff has the kids doing. As usual the first duty is as like in adult family libraries reshelving the books is the first to be done. As I was once again, going up and down the stacks there was that whisper again of "Read the book. Read the book." At times I am actually expecting to hear the whispers now.
I thought to myself which book they are wanting me to read later on during the shift. After I finished shelving the books I went to the tiny kitchen/breakroom for I noticed quite a few crafts and pictures were done by the kids and even some of the parents getting into the act for these were sitting on my desk to be arranged and hung on the children's bulletin board. To me this is duty is fun and gives me a chance to show my art organizational skills. When I was staring at the bulletin board on where to put one child's work I heard the whisper "Look at the picture. Look at the picture". So, I looked at the picture and it was a painting of a house. I am supposing that this is a clue to the book they wanted me to read, and I started to think of books about houses.
Moving to my next duty that night which since they used paint and other mediums to complete their work, I fixed a bucket of hot, soapy water and wiped down on the little tables and chairs as well as the adult furniture used. I also decided to polish the two-rocking chairs and wipe down all the toys that the infants and toddlers played with all day. This one took a while to complete, but after I cleaned the tables and chairs, I noticed there was no paperwork tonight to finish up, so I decided to go around and dust the shelves and carts, then I will take my lunch/breakfast break before rewinding VHS takes and making sure the DVD's were in the correct packages for everyone knows that's just rude to have to rewind a tape before watching or having to search for the DVD you want. That's when I heard the whispers again "Read the book. Read the book." "Remember the picture. Remember the picture."
After rewinding and checking the movies I decided to clean the two bathrooms and vacuum the large carpets. One was the group reading carpet and the other was the ones as you come into the library. Like I said this is one fun place to work even all alone. I was going around making sure I completed what needed to be done I noticed a book on the one rocking chair that was not there when I dusted and polished it.
Tonights book that the voices wanted me to read was "Little House in the Big Woods". This is the beginning of the Little House series sharing all about what family no matter when they lived really does believe in the same things such as caring for others in the family as well as willing to help the neighbors among other societal endeavors. The last picture that I hung on the bulletin board when I heard 'Remember the picture." was a picture of a little log cabin and that is what Pa, Ma, Mary, Laura, and Baby Carrie lived in the Big Woods. As I sat and read the book for it is a fast read, I almost forgot to put out snacks for the early reading session that will start as I am leaving. What a great book.

excellent. Libraries are so much fun. I love walking around in the one down here. We have sections for the adult reader, teens, sports fans, fiction, non fiction, there is a game room, and a small bookstore. I could spend hours there (if I didn't have to work)
I like this. Whispering Books.
Exciting to get to the what the book was, and connection. I must admit the voice in my head is maybe it’s an old librarian who died at work many years ago. If this was a series of books, or one big book I would buy it. Well done and exciting 🏆✍️📕
I always heard the books when I was a bookseller. Now I'm not so sure it wasn't the ghosts of readers-past
