A Night at the Children's Library

There is another library that I work the night shift. It is at the local children's library. At this library the night shift librarian has a few other big/little chores to do other than reshelving books. That is still the first chore that I do though reshelve the regular books before moving on to rewinding some movie and cartoon tapes for there are some old VHS cassettes and also making sure the DVDs are in the correct holders. The next chore is to pick up any toys that seem to be laying around in the stacks that the kids or their parents forget to put back and to wipe and satanize the other toys like the blocks, etc.

After that is all done it is time to go back to the desk which is much like an old teacher's desk and complete some leftover paperwork which usually only takes about an hour right before break/lunchtime. As you know I am a fruit and vegetable person as well as tea at this hour. After my lunch break it is usually time to go about and wipe down all the tables and chairs for being a children's library the tables get used for arts and crafts and whatever else the day librarians can think of to keep the kids busy and having fun. I was going into where silent reading is done and I hear "Read the book. Read the book." I have read a lot of children's and youth books and what book could this entity want me to read.

So, I finished straightening the books and magazines in this area and went back to the desk and tidied it up a bit. I decided to vacuum the carpet in the few offices and collect their trash if needed. "Read the book. Read the book." I did a check in the library classroom and on the blackboard, there was the common message "Read the book." At this time I had a feeling that I was not really alone once again. The feeling was not a scary one, but more of a comforting one. As I was cleaning the classroom on the table in the center there was a picture of a pig and a spider. Was this a clue to the book whoever wants me to read. Again, the whisperer "Read the book. Read the book." To me there is only one book that this leads me to, but I have not seen it laying out yet anywhere, but I did go around the main floor again and checked out all three carts. There doesn't seem to be any books out of place. I had an idea I went over the bulletin board where all the coming activities and whatever else the library offered was posted. I noticed all the pictures and and artwork that the children have done over the past few weeks and I also noticed dioramas of farms and various other animals.

I went back to the desk and thought this through, and when the time comes to set up for the breakfast groups at the table that kind of looks like an old cafeteria table I check to make sure there is enough milk and juice for the kids and coffee and tea for the parents, and also to pick out a proper morning snack like a Pop-tart or PB+J sandwiches. I walked around and "Yes, the question "READ THE BOOK!" kind of loud. Continued to walk around and I was right it was the book 'Charlotte's Web' from E.B. White. Thanks to Wilbur and Charlotte we all learn what makes us who we are along with the friends we gain throughout our lives as we are Something, Terrific and Humble.

When I'm in a library, I always feel like I'm not really alone. They are one of my favorite places, I always wanted to work in one as a child.
