An Argument
When Your Child Does Not Believe Your Story

This is for the Vocal Fantasy Prologue Challenge.
This is entirely fiction and it ignores timelines (but it doesnât involve time travel, no Doctor Who here.

"There weren't always dragons in the Valley."
âBut there arenât any dragons here now, and there never have been. Iâve never seen any. I think you are just making it upâ
âYou are only seven, the dragons were here before you were born, but then went awayâ
âYou are telling fibs, dragons wouldnât come and live on a housing estate, would they? Where would they live, sleep, and eat? And what would they eat? Dogs? Cats? Rabbits? People?â
âNo, the dragons were here are they lived in Grae Park. There is lots of room there and they lived in the woods. Well I say lived, they didnât really live because they were stone statues, and when I was young my parents took me to Grae Park and let us play on them
I had some great adventures then, and when I got older I was allowed to go with my friends where we had lots of magical adventures. We were Princesses and Princes, King and Queens, Sorcerers and Witches, every time we went it was magical
Then one day they were gone. They had been taken to Crystal Palace, and where they once were they put up the play area. So where you play on your swings and slides that is where the dragons lived, although in reality they were statues of dinosaurs but you can still see them today at Crystal Palace.â
âSo the dragons werenât real, that's no good is itâ
âThey fired our imaginations, like when you read your Harry Potter books. We could climb on these, ride these in our minds and we knew we called always come back. Your imagination is far better than watching films and TV.
Think about when you play with your models and toys, and you do like your dragons donât you. So really there ARE dragons in our valley still, and they are yoursâ
âBut they are not real, Harry Potter is not real, so there were never real dragons in the valleyâ
âDid I say they were real?â
âNo, but when you say there are things you expect them to be real. If you say there is bread in the kitchen it has to be there otherwise you are telling liesâ
âSo was I telling lies when I said âThere weren't always dragons in the Valleyâ? Because stone or real they made an appearance, they are gone now but different dragons have appeared. There are dragons in your bedroom. We could go and visit big dragons in parks like Crystal Palace, Museums or even zoos if we can find one with a Komodo Dragonâ
âKomodo Dragon? Are there dragons in zoosâ
âKomodo Dragons are not dragons but are ten foot 150lb lizards that hunt and eat prey like birds and mammals, and they wouldnât be averse to tackling a human. I wouldnât want to be attacked by oneâ
âKomodo Dragons still sound cool. Could we go to a zoo and see one? I would love to see one. Please, Please Pleaseâ
âSo you didn't believe me when I said there had been dragons, and you said stone ones didnât count so how do you know that I am not telling fibs about Komodo Dragons?â
âI know they might exist because they are ten-foot lizards, and if you take me to the zoo to see one then I will know you are telling the truthâ
âSo do you want me to find a zoo with Komodo Dragons and then go an make a day of it and see what else we can see? You could bring a friend tooâ
âYeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss Pleaseâ
Now what happens?
