Amnesia
A Story Every Day in 2024 Nov 29th 343/366
"He can't remember. What a surprise," Christine said, pacing again, her movement ominous.
Bethan stared at Dave, who genuinely looked puzzled. He couldn't hold her gaze.
"He's such a liar!" Christine's pace was getting faster, rising with her irritation.
Bethan looked over at Christine and back at Dave. He had closed his eyes and Bethan noticed a small tear form and drop. Bethan felt her heart contract but steeled herself. This man was an accomplished liar. She would not be played.
"That's okay, Dave. Christine and I will fill you in on the details and we'll see if that'll jog your memory."
"Christine?" Dave questioned, weakly.
"Your wife!" Christine shouted, still pacing.
The tear had travelled, leaving a clear trail in the grime on Dave's cheek.
"My wife? I don't remember..."
"Sure you don't," Christine muttered.
"You've taken a knock to the head, Dave, so you may have suffered some memory loss." Or you could be pretending, Bethan thought.
"How did I knock my head?" Dave said, softly.
"That's not important."
"And why am I tied up? Please untie me. Please. It hurts so much."
Dave looked at Bethan pleadingly but his gaze on her was broken when Christine delivered a sharp kick to his shin.
"You don't get to ask anything," Christine barked. "We don't buy this act. You've been acting for years so don't expect us to be fooled."
"Do you know who I am, Dave?" Bethan asked. Another tear fell from Dave's face. This was not going as he wanted at all.
"No," he whimpered.
"He's lying! He knows!" Christine snapped again, her agitation making her skittish.
"Please don't kick me again!" Dave's voice broke with just the right amount of emotion.
"Okay. Enough." Bethan was sat near Dave's head. She turned towards Christine. "Christine, be calm. Let's find out what we can."
She turned back to Dave, Christine now still. Bethan was thinking of how best to go about this. Explaining their situation to the police would be difficult but she felt like it was the right thing to do. However, Dave's "amnesia" could be problematic.
And then Christine spoke:
"If he can't remember, maybe we should just get rid of him."

Woah! That’s a little rash, Christine! She’s cracking a bit isn’t she?
Oh wow, Dave deserves justice but I hope Bethan talks Christine out of getting rid of him. Gripping, Rachel.
Ah, and therein lies the crux........
Oh I love Christine - she's my type of girl! Oh, he can't remember, let's get rid of him! Ha! Excellent as always Rachel.
Well-wrought! Poor Christine hasn't had enough time to process the situation as Bethan had, and the darkness has caught her unaware. “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
YES! Do that!
How well does Dave know his wife, I wonder? Enough to call her bluff?
Christine is just as crazy a Dave, it seems.
Oh dear… Christine & Dave were made for each other… from the same cloth 😳.
Will this surprise threat jog his memory I wonder?
It's a funny one, seriously 😂
Hahahahahahaha I love Christine! Now watch how he suddenly remembers everything 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
