One down, one to go. You are a rock star around here. People, the families of those who fell from the killings especially, are cheering you on even more. In a city that has had weak ties with law enforcement, you’re generating serious attention to the issue of being accused. Wrongly accused.

Take this kite in good health and well being. I spoke with St. Kitts and Darby. They’ll be in touch with you at the end of the week. They want to see you. They have the knowledge as you know. They know more than I do. But I know enough. Once those two go down there, you will be briefed on a possibly exciting opportunity.

Since you have taken the correct steps to not take the stand, you will be afforded the chance to be an investigator in the murder of Thiola Bryant. I know this may seem out of the ordinary, but you’ve seen more in your days than most people will see in six lifetimes.

The judge is allowing your involvement in the case now that Allegrina confessed.

In most cases, you would be recused from the entire case, yet since you have the accuracy and aim and gameplan already in motion, it’s important to highlight the fact that you’re going to be fighting for two.

Think of it as a trial where the accused represents him or herself. Now, imagine if the one thought to be the murderer is actually the inspector. It’s all new based on the fact that you were cleared. As an attorney, I know that it’s a winding road to justice. But we’ll just have to keep the tires spinning on the hairpin.

Once we clean up any gray areas and make them black and white, the jury will luxuriate in the fact that the one who is reopening the case just beat one. You’re a national star. International!

If you are not up to it, that’s your choice. I won’t judge you or begrudge you. That’s for Thimpkins to do. And you know she’s fierce. She’s going to expect only the best evidence to come into her court. For you to take hold of this idea is to say that you’re fully committed to the exactitude of this time period.

There are some parameters to meet in regard to whether you wish to continue as just another victim of the system or if you seek to rise up and claim your stake. That stake is in your future. You have every opportunity to say no.

Kim stopped on the period and whispered, “Yes.” She looked at the rest of the email and sent back a simple message: “I’ll do it.”

In her cell, she stared at the ceiling with a surveyor’s eye. She spent much time looking about with the thoughts of being a lead investigator again. This time…for a murder she was accused of committing. Her stomach lurched but her mind churned. It offered her a panoramic of thoughts, shards of memories, and splinters of truth.

Her friend returned. It seemed bigger. She named it Goalie. The spider spread its legs as it seemed frozen to the dimming light. It then scurried off of the fixture and found its home behind Kim’s rack. She completed her workout routine. Some sweat formed at her brow and she dabbed it with her blanket.

“Guard!”

“What is it, Jergensen?”

“Water, please!”

He tossed her a paper water bottle. She sipped it like a professional: slow, steady sips contributed to her regulating her breathing and heart rate.

“You deserve it, Jergensen. You beat the case. But can you do it again?”
