"It's just a kiss," Abbie's slowly realized that she has read the same line for almost an hour now. She brushed a piece of her hair out of her face as she slowly peered over the edge of her book; sneaking a peak at the young woman in the room with her. Her name was Francesca and she was the opposite of everything Abbie was. But somehow, they were friends.

"I hate makeup, so much," her voice always made the melt. Soft and sweet, with a hint of her home. "Ugh, why did I agree to go out? I need to stop making promises when I drink." even when complaining. She is cute.

Abbie closed and tossed her book aside as she propped herself. "Not feeling it tonight?"

"Not in the slightest. I've been out every night this week. But I have a few more weeks of freedom before I have to spend the summer with my lita. So I am going to make the best of it before I die of boredom." she stated as she fixed her lashes.

"Wow, sounds like a chore. To spend a summer in the Spanish countryside. Sitting by the water with a drink. Catching the eyes of some handsome towny." Abbie chuckled to herself as she could feel her friend's eyes roll.

"Oh, Abbie. You read too many stories."

"Sue me,"

"I will never understand that phrase. But besides, there is so much to do in-" she stopped for a moment before looking back at Abbie, a look of defeat was on her face. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude but I forgot the name of your town,"

The pair laughed lightly as Abbie leaned back on her bed. "Don't worry, most people outside the US don't know it."

"What was it?"

"Fresno, California." A confused look came on the Spanish beauty's face. "It's three hours north of LA," Abbie quickly interjected. The laughter only got bigger in the room.

"Okay, I was about to say,"

"The US is a lot bigger than you thought it would be huh?"

"I can't say that I knew more than LA and New York." The two continued to laugh. Abbie felt a warm feeling take over her as she looked at her friend. Her smile slowly faded. A lump began to form in her throat and her stomach slowly began to knot up.

"Hey, Franny. Can I ask you something?"

"Of course, what are roommates for?"

"I know this may not be something you would know about, but have you ever had confidence issues?" Abbie reeled back as her friend's body language changed.

"Why do you think I don't have confidence issues?" her tone was different. It was deeper.

"Oh, I didn't mean to-" she was stunned when Franny suddenly started laughing. "You're so mean," a pillow was thrown at but missed the Spaniard.

"Oh, come on. You should know by now that I like to joke,"

"That's a joke to you? That's cruel."

"I am only cruel to people I like,"

"I would hope you like me, we have been stuck with each other in this tiny room for half a year now. It would be pretty awkward,"

"Abbie, you are awkward,"

"Wow, that is rude,"

"See, I like you," Abbie rolled her eyes and fell back onto her bed. "You should come out with me tonight. I'll let you borrow one of my dresses,"

The shorter girl shot her head up and looked at her friend in disbelief. "Franny, I barely come up to your chest, I don't think I will fit in any of your dresses,"

"You must love the view huh?" A deep blush came appeared as she buried her face into her pillow. Muffled laughter was heard. "Oh, you have no idea how many times I have heard that line from guys who are shorter than me,"

Abbie lifted her head up and turned to look at her friend. Her face got even redder as looked at Franny undressing. She quickly buried her face again. "Sorry!" she screamed through the pillowed.

"You don't have to be embarrassed when I change. It's normal," A few moments later. The weight of the bed was shifted. "Sit up," She slowly lifted herself up from her pillow and placed herself next her friend, who was now fully dressed and ready for the night. "Seriously come out with me tonight, I don't want you to have any regrets or not have fun your first year."

A defeated sigh left her body. "I don't know. I have never been a party person and I just don't feel like I would belong."

"You will never know unless you try right?"

Abbie turned and looked the taller girl. She shot her a kind smile. This did not help her nerves one bit. "I just don't know, we have two months before school is over and I'm afraid that I will leave this place without-" she stopped herself before she revealed her secret.

"Without what?"

"Nothing,"

Franny quickly grabbed Abbie by the shoulders as she bore her eyes into the shorter girl's. "You're a bad liar you know that? You asked me about confidence earlier, yes?"

"Yes,"

"Why?" Her eyes quickly lit up and filled with joy. "Wait, is there a boy?" Abbie blushed quickly.

"No!"

"Oh, a girl?"

"No, I mean. Yes. But-" her protest was futile as her friend quickly cheered.

"Oh my god, who is it?"

"Um, it doesn't matter. She doesn't like me back anyways,"

"Oh, how do you know that?" she confidently argued.

"Well, me and her are opposite in every way. Like looks wise and personality. It wouldn't work. Plus we are from two different worlds and we wouldn't be able to see each other much after this year." She avoided her eyes. She was shocked when she suddenly felt her hands on her face. Franny slowly lifted her face up.

"Abbie, listen. It's all about confidence. You just have to take a deep breath push down all your fears, and just go for it. You never know what is gonna happen." she slowly released the girl's face.

Abbie looked at her friend deeply. "So, just push down all my fear and go for it? Has that ever worked on you?"

"Well, no one has tried yet so I wouldn't know,"

"Would you believe me if I told you that I haven't had my first kiss yet?"

"No offense but I would be more shocked if you told me you did," She quickly blocked the slap that she deserved. "I'm kidding. But is that what you want? Your first kiss?"

"Um, I guess." She quickly looked the time. A wave of guilt came over her. "You know you can go to your party, right?"

She dismissed the comment. "I can be late and besides you're more important." Abbie felt a lump in her throat. Those words rung in her ears over and over. She took a deep breath.

"So how was your first kiss?"

"Well I was-" her voice trailed off. Nothing else matter to her in the moment. She was nervous. More nervous than she had ever been in her life. With all the confidence that she could bring out. She leaned forward.

Her lips were soft. Softer than she imagined in her dreams. Her body slowly relaxed from the shock as she deepened the kiss. Abbie felt her hand slowly pulled her in closer.

Bliss. That was what she felt but as quickly as it came. It ended. Her lips remained puckered. Her eyes still closed. Trying to make it last, for a moment longer.

Abbie opened her eyes slowly to a smiling and slightly blushing Francesca. "Sorry," She shook her head slowly and pulled her in for a hug. The shorter girl returned it quickly.
