A Raccoon Dreamed of the Zaqqum Tree
A Microfiction Story I Made Using My Oracle Cards (Cause Why Not?)
A raccoon's strange dream; bugs breathed on the Zaqqum tree.
They optimistically yearned to reach the roots; sources of anguish.
As they crawled, their youth became spent; an unwelcome surprise.
Below, crowded, they shoved for space. Bug doctors collected corpses.
Happiness outran them all, fleeing with regrettable and mournful song.
The humans reigned sovereign over the tree, drunk on power...
They fed the roots with all the evils of mankind...
The tree grew wretched; thorny, with bitter flesh and skulls.
But above the tree, Truth flew close, unyielding to corruption.
One lone bug got away; sailing free on calm seas.
About the Creator
Megan Baker (Left Vocal in 2023)
A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.
