A magical mirror that shows alternate futures.
Aidan had always been a skeptic.

The idea of magic belonged in fairy tales and bedtime stories, not in the real world. But when he inherited an old Victorian house from his late grandmother, he found himself questioning everything he believed.
The house was a relic from another time, with creaking wooden floors and towering bookshelves brimming with ancient tomes. But what captivated Aidan the most was the grand mirror in the attic. It was enormous, spanning from floor to ceiling, with an ornate golden frame intricately carved with symbols he did not recognize. A note rested on its glass, written in his grandmother's delicate handwriting: The Mirror of Possibilities. Be mindful of what you seek.
Curiosity outweighed his skepticism. He touched the surface, expecting nothing more than his own reflection. Instead, the glass shimmered like rippling water, and a new world unfolded before him.
He saw himself in a gleaming office, dressed in an expensive suit. His desk bore a nameplate: Aidan Prescott, CEO. The skyline outside suggested a metropolis far grander than the small town he called home. Wealth and power radiated from this version of him. He watched as he commanded a room full of executives, his voice unwavering, his presence magnetic.
Before he could process it, the image faded, replaced by another future.
This time, he was in a small, sunlit bookstore, shelves towering with books of every kind. He was older, laughing with customers, sharing recommendations, living a life of quiet fulfillment. His heart ached at the simplicity of it, the sheer joy in his alternate self’s eyes.
The mirror rippled again, and he found himself in an unfamiliar village, dressed in rugged clothes, tending to a lush garden behind a cozy cottage. Children ran past him, laughing, while a woman with kind eyes called out his name. A family. A life of Nature.
Aidan stumbled back, his breath shallow. The possibilities seemed endless, each version of him carrying a different fate. His mind swirled with questions. If these were all potential futures, how did he choose? Was it already decided, or did his decisions truly matter?
He approached the mirror again, whispering, "What happens if I do nothing?"
The glass darkened. This time, he saw himself sitting alone in the very attic he now stood in, the house falling into disrepair around him. His hair was gray, his eyes vacant. No success, no family, no fulfillment—just regret.
Aidan shuddered and turned away. He had always believed that the future was uncertain, but now he saw that it was not just uncertain—it was his to shape. Every choice, every path he took, led to a different ending. And while he could not live them all, he could choose wisely.
As he left the attic, he glanced at the note once more: Be mindful of what you seek.
With new determination, Aidan descended the stairs, ready to forge his own destiny. He didn’t need the mirror to tell him what to do next. He would decide for himself.

I think we all have this fantasy at one time or another. Good job at seeing what we all seem to need to do.
