The Wonders Of Moroccan Tea
Explore the benefits of this beautiful beverage
Every culture is known for its unique blend of teas, from Iraqi black cardamon tea to Asian matcha and African Rooibos.
However, there’s a special kind of pleasure associated with sipping Moroccan mint green tea.
It is that midpoint between a refreshingly spicy & sweet combination.
Zesty fresh mint is all you need to take green tea to the next level, and the Moroccan version combines the flavors perfectly.
Since trying it for the first time at the home of a lovely Morrocan neighbor, it has become a family favorite.
For a precise recipe for making traditional Moroccan green tea, the video below is a simple guide:
There are different ways of brewing Moroccan green tea. I’ve experimented with a few, yet my ultimate favorite is always half a stalk of fresh mint.
Although some use frozen or dried mint, I find that freshly harvested mint works best as it really gives that minty punch. Another thing I noticed that works best is adding sugar during the steeping process as it allows for sugar to develop its flavor better.
Moroccan tea is best served hot in traditional beautifully designed gold cups. I’m not a big fan of gold so instead, I like to enjoy my tea in a silver glass cup (pictured above).
Moroccan tea has amazing benefits for physical and mental benefits. Green tea is renowned for its detoxifying effects and antioxidant properties. When combined with mint, it aids digestion and helps in boosting mood and concentration.
If you are concerned about the sugar, you can easily substitute it with stevia, erythritol, or honey.
Other Morrocoan Favorites
I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you some of my favorite morrocoan additions to the table.
Traditional moroccoan food, savory and sweet dishes alike, are filled with essential nutritions, flavors and a heck load of spices to keep you satisfied.
Among one of my favorite savory dishes is the tradition couscous and pumpkin meat tagine. This dish is divine as it combines the flavors of sweet and sour to bring along one of a kind comfort foods that will surely become a family favorite.
You can utilize dried or fresh fruit, lamb shanks and substitute potatoes for pumpkins.
This is a great simple video that shows you how to cook a tagine:
Just make sure you get the spices right or else you are in for a suprise.
What is your favorite beverage?
One my favorite Moroccoan sweets is date filled sugar biscuits. It is spiced with warming spices like nutmeg, cinammon and cardammon.
Below is a step by step video featuring how to make date cookies:
You need to prepare or purchase a date dough ahead of time using ghee, dates, cinammon, cardammon and fennel. Prepare the biscuit dough and start rolling.
I love this in summer as a great addition to moroccoan tea enjoyed during an afternoon picnic with family and friends.
It can also be enjoyed equally in winter since the warming spices work to warm the body and provide comfort for the digestive system and the mood.
Enjoyed with mint flavored green tea and a plate of mixed nuts and you have revived the moroccoan spirit.
Morrocoans love to utiilize a combination of nuts and seeds into their dishes. This creates the perfect crunch, flavor and provide a bomb of vitamins and minerals all in one bite.
