Italian Venison Sandwich by Amanda Payne

The Italian Venison Sandwich is made with deliciously Italian flavored ground venison, slices of mushrooms, green peppers, and purple onions mixed with sauce and topped with lots of cheese and placed inside a steak roll. Delizioso!

The Italian Venison Sandwich is so simple to make. It seriously takes only 15 minutes, and clean-up is easy too. You can't get any simpler than that. This is the perfect meal for when you are tired or stressed for time.

My son Chase said these sandwiches are better than anything you'll get from Subway. He loves Subway sandwiches, so that's a huge compliment! After he tasted the first ones I made, he loved them so much he requested I make them the following week. Now it's a family favorite!

Italian Venison Sandwich Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of venison, ground (or other ground meat)
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 sweet purple onion, sliced thin
  • 6 ounces of mushrooms, sliced thin
  • 14 ounces of pizza sauce
  • 8 ounces of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 6 Arnold Premium Italian Steak Rolls

Getting It Done:

  1. Slice the green bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms. Set them aside for later.
  2. In a large skillet, crumble and break the venison (or other meat). Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, basil, and oregano and mix well.
  3. Cook the meat on medium-high heat until no longer pink. This should take about 7 minutes. Drain the excess grease if needed.
  4. Then add the green bell peppers, onions, and mushroom slices. Cook until tender.
  5. Add pizza sauce and stir well. Top with cheese and let it cook till the cheese is melted.
  6. Spoon this mixture into steak rolls and serve hot.

These sandwiches go great with pasta, chips, french fries, or a side salad. They are great as leftovers the next day, too. Keep meat separate from the roll. Reheat the meat in the microwave 30 seconds at a time until heated. Then stuff the steak roll and heat it for another 30 seconds.

I used venison for the meat in this recipe, but you can use any ground meat you prefer. It is good with ground beef, chicken, and turkey as well. I have even tried it with ground pork sausage (Italian and breakfast sausage), and it was superb.

The Italian Venison Sandwich recipe was submitted and published to deerrecipes.online by my friend, Mrs. Paula Greer. She is the mother of my friend Michael Cantrell of Pure Instinct Hunting and Wicked Wild Outdoors. Paula says she likes to top her sandwich with a drizzle of Italian dressing, more mozzarella cheese, and a few slices of tomato and pepperoncini peppers. Doesn't that sound good!
