Winning Time
$20, 683.34. Carla stared at the number representing her bank balance. It had never been nearly so high before. Yesterday it had been $683.34. Now, twenty thousand six hundred eighty three dollars and thirty four cents. Wow! She smiled. She could quit her job. Finally!

Lucid
A blue and purple sky, covered heavily with long wispy dark clouds, shone over the red rocks, dust, and mountains surrounding them. The wind whipped through Clare’s hair as she sat at a small two-person table speaking to her great grandma Rhoda, the dry air tickling her nose.

The Man in Central Park
The night sky glimmered and the commotion of the New Year’s celebrations echoed through Central Park, John Hathaway could not help but feel alone in a city brimming with people. As New York cheered on the coming of the new year, he silently sat on a bench and contemplated his current situation. He was out of time, out of money, out of work, and out of hope that things would turn around. When he thought of his little girl that was at home with her babysitter, his aching head, and his empty wallet he cupped his head in his hands and allowed a single teardrop to slowly slide down the creases of his face until he felt a glaring on the back of his neck.

The Reward
I planned to win $20,000 today. I carefully copied the details of the reward poster into my little black notebook: blond curly hair of medium length, brown eyes, and a phone number to call with information. I would be able to find him, I felt sure. I had seen him yesterday skulking about the neighbourhood. I took a last look at his eyes staring back at me from the poster tacked to a light pole. He looked alert and handsome, a face anyone would love.

Household Gender Roles
Written by: Abisola Ogundiran - March 7, 2021 Introduction The popular gender roles that we are familiar with today are the product of the industrial revolution that started around 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. Before this event, most of the workforce was concentrated in the agricultural sectors, and it was common for families to farm, spin a yarn or weave cloth together.

Where There's A Will, There's A Way.
A church may as well be an unfamiliar planet at this point. I clutch the pew in front of me, looking down at my father’s casket. Although we’re mere feet away, I could barely make his face out through the fog of unanswered questions between us. As parishioners and guests shake my hand, my brain utters the phrases my lips could never form.

The black book
My name is Jacques. Oh my god is it 7:30 already? I scramble for my phone to snooze the alarm. Of course, its gotten tangled and lost in the bed covers while tossing and turning in the night. I really should put it on the bedside table instead of falling asleep to scrolling through Facebook. “Cael!!!!! Time to get up!” “You can come cuddle with Mom and I for 15 if you come now!” of course I’m saying this because I don’t want to get up myself yet. I can hear him step down the ladder to his bunkbed, and I’m grateful I don’t have to yell again. ‘Boy’s get up it’s after eight!!” damn I fell back asleep. Time to move. Ground hog day again. I know it’s cold out. Gotta be -30, and I better get the truck started. First eggs for the boy. “come on Cael get up! You’re gonna be late for school again!”

Grandpa's List
Grandpa’s List Perhaps I’ve watched too many old movies. In my mind, I have a very distinct vision of what a “will reading” looks like. It takes place in a large conference room, at a long table surrounded by leather chairs. Behind them are rows of antiquated law books that lawyers rummaged through late into the evening before everything was computerized. If the estate lawyer came to the home of the deceased, the will reading would take place in the study, with the lawyer seated at the large, oak desk of the person who signed the will years before.

Reconcile
Peter Mince knew the world held nothing back when it came to life. High school proved to be one of those times. As one of the shortest members of his year, he gained the nickname Mince Meat from a bully who made him his favorite target. Four years of fights left him wary of others throughout college then beyond.
