Who are you not to be?
I came into this world fighting! My mom or my "brown sugar" as I affectionaly call her always reminds me of the day I was born. My mom a young 21 year old in 1984 giving birth to what would be her one and only child! She loved to tell me how she had NO idea she was pregnant until she was about 7 months, she loved eating all the things that they say today are awful for babies, and how she only knew she was pregnant because of an unfortunate run in on her way to work with Burger King! Yet there she was giving birth to a baby girl on a brisk Thanksgiving eve.

Birth of a Mother
Heat. That’s the part I remember the most. In all of the videos I had watched and books I had read about labor and delivery, nothing had prepared me for just how hot I would get in that triage room. My husband ran ice chips from a Styrofoam cup down my bare back and they melted instantly, rivulets of lukewarm water mingling with my sweat, pouring off of me.

Table for Two
Rorie stood on her tiptoes with her nose pressed against the cold, white counter. She was just tall enough to see the white hair of a woman and the clipboard that hid her face. The woman’s voice surprised her because it was heavy, loud, and raspy like the bark of a bloodhound.

A Mother's Day Letter to my Son.
It was March 24th 1994 and the ground outside was covered with snow and ice. I was two weeks past my delivery date when my labor started around three o'clock in the afternoon. Your dad cancelled his calls for the rest of the day and rushed home to get me to the hospital. It was freezing outside and a sheet of ice on the sidewalks so your dad slowly helped me get to the car. We headed for Trenton State Hospital, both of us excited and nervous. We brought the boombox with us so that I could listen to music while I was in labor. I had already decided what I wanted to listen to...Kenny G.

THE ADOPTED CHILD
Mr Mink Once upon a time, there was a man named Mr Mink. He was single; he was doing things on his own and working hard. He had one cow and one chicken. Those animals were keeping him company. He was happy even if he did not have any wife even if he was living with those animals.

Do Your Children Prefer To Eat Fast Food?
Introduction I have a problem. As an only parent, my life has always been filled with busy days, hours, and minutes. I have never had the continuous luxury of spending a lot of time at home doing what the traditional stay-at-home mother or the contemporary stay-at-home parent did and does as it relates to meal preparation.

King of Poachers
It was about 1 week before my 10th birthday in the late month of January of 1977. My father comes up to me and ask me what I would like for my 10th birthday. He even went so far and point out the mathematics of how important a child 10th birthday is. In case you have forgotten this is the start of the 90 year cycle of double digits. It will take 9 decades to get to the BIG THREE’S” 100 year old birthday which is to say your 10 all over again but with an extra ZERO!
