I only want to see the sun, and never the rain. The rain can be beautiful in some cases, but it would someday become my downfall if I didn't have support.
"Ambitious 7's? What's that?" I ask my teacher. She looks down at her computer and explains it to me and another one of my classmates who was also nominated for this.
"So this organization that comes together to talk to young girls, such as yourself, about your goals and dreams," she explains. "You two girls were nominated for the Ambitious 7's this year."
Before now, I had never heard of something called the Ambitious 7's. It sounded important, by the word "ambitious". But before now, I didn't fully understand what that meant.
"One of you guys are going to have to attend a total of three conferences with other girls from other school's who are also in the ambitious program."
"One of us?" asked my classmate.
"Yes. Unfortunately, we can only take one of you guys."
That was pretty sad. Considering your teacher nominated you for this program because she thought was a great fit for you, but you weren't the only one who had the chance to go.
"You guys are going to have to complete this document by answering these questions. Once you finish it, and the teachers look it over, we will tell you who gets to go to the conference." She turned her computer to us. It had about six questions. I knew I was going to have to answer the questions to the best of my ability.
"Do you guys have any questions?"
We both shake our heads. It was pretty straight-forward. The only thing I was afraid about was the fact that the other person also nominated for the Ambitious 7's was someone who I thought was way smarter than me. Could I really do this?
I had gone home that day and told my mom about it. She was over the moon excited and happy about this. It was kind of funny that she was more excited than me and she wasn't the one who had gotten nominated.
She told me this was a great idea and that I should try to get the spot. At first, this just seemed like this was just a normal kind of program. But then she explained it to me.
She told me this was a good program for me because I was already ambitious about my goals. As a girl who was head-over-heels about track, I loved practicing and running in general. The thing about what's happening in our present time is that there's this thing called Covid-19.
Covid-19 was a pandemic that took over the world. Everything was shut down, especially the things that were linked to my track and field career. The rain had almost come down, and the sun was starting to go behind the clouds.
I had to do something. My track careers means everything to me, and I want to fulfill it even though it's harder now than it used to be. At this time, I was beginning to think my track was done. I had a team that I couldn't go back to. So could I even practice anymore? Could I still be ambitious?
My mom gave me her support. My team is now doing Zoom practices, so I could keep in shape until it was finally time to run again. Even before when everyone was telling me to work hard to fulfill my goal, that didn't change because of Covid-19.
Covid-19 was only an excuse to stop because I couldn't do the things I used to do. But doing online practices, people still tell me to work hard. It's the same story. Which is why my mom supports me and encourages, or else the rain would've fallen a long time ago.
Once the rain fell, I would've never recovered. I had to continue so the sun could stay out. I needed my mom to support my passion for track or else I wouldn't be able fulfill it to the best of my ability.
The same goes for my writing. My mom always finds great opportunities for me to highlight my skills and to show people what I got. I know she supports me with all my passions. And that's what drives me forward.
At this point I think it's safe to say that without at least one person's supports, you could never fulfill your passion to the best of your ability. You don't need to have a lot of people behind you. It could be as little as one. Having someone support and encouragement, gives you the drive and focus to do more things. You feel more encouraged and happy to know that someone wants you to succeed.
Those people can be found in your parents, family and your friends. Just have one person.
"So how did the conferences go?" My teacher asked.
"They were great. Really inspiring. I feel like I learned a lot about my myself, and how important it is to have goals and passions. But most of all, to have people to support you."
As long as I kept on the right trail, the rain would never come. The sun would always shine on me.
