Ramadan 2025 is anticipated to commence on the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025, and conclude on the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025. However, as the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, the exact dates may vary depending on moon sighting.

Muslims worldwide eagerly await this sacred month, which is marked by fasting, prayers, and increased devotion. The official confirmation of Ramadan’s beginning will occur upon the sighting of the crescent moon.

Understanding the Importance of Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and holds immense significance for Muslims. It is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and increased spiritual activities. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, and other prohibitions while focusing on worship and self-discipline.

The Holy Quran was revealed during this month, making it even more special. One of its most significant nights is Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Power), which is described in the Quran as

better than a thousand months.” (Surah Al-Qadr: 97:1-5)

Why Does the Date of Ramadan Change Every Year?

The Islamic (Hijri) calendar follows the lunar cycle, making it approximately 10–12 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. This means that Ramadan moves earlier each year, rotating through all seasons over time. The month begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon and lasts for either 29 or 30 days.

Ramadan 2025 Prayer Timetable

Muslims observe five daily prayers, and during Ramadan, special prayers called Taraweeh are performed at night. The exact prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha depend on location, so it is advised to follow local mosque timetables.

For those in major cities like London, New York, Sydney, and Dubai, local Islamic organizations release specific prayer and fasting schedules each year. Always refer to your nearest mosque for the most accurate timings.

When Will Ramadan 2025 End?

Ramadan will conclude with the sighting of the Shawwal moon, marking the start of Eid al-Fitr. This joyous occasion is expected to fall on the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025, or Monday, March 31, 2025, depending on moon sighting.

The Pillar of Fasting (Sawm)

Fasting during Ramadan is known as Sawm, which is the fourth pillar of Islam. It is an act of worship that teaches patience, gratitude, and self-discipline. Muslims fast daily from pre-dawn (Suhoor) until sunset (Iftar), abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs.

Spiritual Rewards of Ramadan

Ramadan offers immense blessings, including:

  • Forgiveness of sins
  • Increased rewards for good deeds
  • Greater connection with Allah (SWT)
  • Opportunity to seek Laylatul Qadr (Night of Power)

As narrated in Hadith,

Whoever fasts in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Eid al-Fitr 2025: The Celebration After Ramadan

Eid al-Fitr is the festival that marks the end of Ramadan. It is a day of celebration, gratitude, and communal prayers. On this day, Muslims gather for special Eid prayers, share meals, and give Zakat al-Fitr, a mandatory charity for those in need.

This year, Eid al-Fitr 2025 is expected to be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025, but the exact date will depend on moon sighting.

Prayer times are calculated according to Muslim World League calendar.
