Pro-choice Does Not Mean Pro-Abortion
Not a black and white issue
I have been told that I am a bad person because I believe in the Pro-choice movement. I am pro-choice, but that does not make me Pro-abortion. I just see that it is not a black/white issue as many people believe. I think the woman/girl and their families have a right to choose what is best for them without judgement. Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
I see the women who are raped and have no choice in the conception of the baby growing in their belly. I see the child who has been sex trafficked, being forced into prostitution, who had no choice in the conception of the baby growing in their belly. I see the women or girl facing possible death if they give birth to the baby growing in their belly. And I see the parent told that if they carry to term and give birth that their child will likely suffer the few hours of life the baby will live. I do not think abortion is an easy decision for anyone, but I do see the reasons why many do seek to have an abortion.
I think about my 12 and 6 year old daughters, and what would I do if they were raped and became pregnant. Honestly, I don't know, but I do think my child and I should be able to choose how to handle this traumatic situation if it were to happen. Thereare cases of children as young as 8 years old becoming pregnant. Even though some girls can become pregnant at this age does not mean their bodies are ready to carry a baby and give birth. At that age they are still growing, and the placenta would leach calcium and other much needed nutrients to feed the baby instead of the growing child. Then their pelvic floor has not widened which can result in death of both the baby and mother during delivery. What about their right to live and be healthy? And I pray that I never go through any of this with either of my children, but there are bad people in this world and no matter how careful you are bad things can happen.
Now let's think about the women who are raped, who have no choice in the conception of their child. They have already been through a traumatic experience, and making them go through 9 months carrying a child conceived in a traumatic way is just prolonging their trauma. Yes, some women will choose to carry the baby to term, and maybe even keep the baby. However, I think it is cruel to force this on an already traumatized woman. Then there is the argument that adoption is a better choice, but many times people wishing to adopt an infant want full family histories. A woman who is raped probably does not know the father's history unless the rapist has been caught, so the father's history missing will make it harder for the baby to actually be adopted. And then you will have other people that the mention of the child being conceived out of rape, will just choose not to adopt the child. The chances of a child conceived during a rape being adopted are slimmer than a child whose full family history is noted in their file.
Then there is the mother who is told that she is high risk for death if she keeps her baby. I think she should have the choice to do what is best for her and her family. It is not something we should force or judge her for her decision.
Also, there is the mother who is given a devastating prognosis about the health of her baby. This too is an issue for the woman and her family to decide. Many women probably pray for answers and for a miracle before making a decision. Most probably have sought guidance from clergy, counselors, and medical providers before making a decision about what is best for their familyjuge udecion t r
Based on all of these factors, I believe every women should have a choice, and be able to decide what is best for them and their family. I do not believe any women should be forced to not have a choice. However, that does not mean I am Pro-abortion, but rather I believe in a woman's right to choose what is best for them and their family because we do not know everything involved in their choice.
