Amy decides to keep taking care of her mother, even if she blames her for her father's death, but I feel as if, I, the author is running away with the story a bit too fast. So let's go back to the beginning, Amy's past.
It was another day in Maryland, and at 7 A.M, Amy got up to get ready for school, since she had to leave for school at around 7:45 AM. Amy took a shower, got dressed, and sat at the table to eat cereal for breakfast. After eating, it was time to go. Amy's father, (we'll call him dad), yelled through the corridor, "ITS TIME TO GO, HOP IN THE CAR AMY!" to which Amy replied, "OKAY!". Amy then put her cereal bowl in the seat, grabbed her backpack, and screamed, "BYE MOM!", then ran out to the car. She decided to sit in the backseat, so she could finish her math homework at the last minute. She buckled up, and her dad started driving down the road. Amy took out her math homework, a binder to write on, and her calculator then got to work. While she was working, completely oblivious to her surroundings, she heard a crash and passed out.
Weeks later, Amy woke up, completely oblivious that she had just been in a car accident, and confused on why she was in a hospital. Amy presses the help button to call for the nurse, and asks what exactly is going on. The nurse, who's name is Caroline, explains that Amy was in a car accident, and she received a concussion from the way her head slammed into the seat. Also mentioning how lucky she was to not receive further injuries. Amy's suddenly realizes, and quickly says, "WHERE IS MY DAD?!?". Nurse Caroline takes a deep breath and slightly stutters as she says, "He... He didn't make it." Amy suddenly bursts into tears, knowing that her father, her best friend, had died. She cried until tears couldn't come out anymore, as she couldn't face the fact her dad was gone and would never step foot on this earth again.
Hours later, Amy's mother knocks at Amy's hospital room door. Amy shouts, "Come in!", which her mother replies to by opening the door and coming in to sit down. Then, Amy's mother explains how Amy will be able to check out of the hospital by tomorrow evening, but her mom never looks her in the eyes leading Amy to stutter with tears, "I miss him too, we.. we'll get through this together.. ri-.. right mom?" to which her mom replied, "Yes baby, yes we will.".
The next day, Amy checks out of the hospital, and heads home. On the drive back, Amy and her mother try to discuss the funeral plans, but neither one of them could bear to talk about their recent loss, so they switched the conversation to school, and Amy mom asked if Amy had tests tomorrow. Amy replied with, "How would I know? I haven't been there in weeks," with a smart tone. Which her mom replied with, "Watch your tone young lady, I'll call your teachers and ask them if I can come pick up your missed work,". Amy then complained and said, "I have to do work right after leaving the hospital? NOT FAIR!". Amy's mother simply rolled her eyes and said, "Life isn't fair honey,". Then, Amy, after hearing that phrase for the 100th time, let out a huff and was quiet for the rest of the ride.
