Family dynamics played out in public....

rich or poor, we all feel.

Family dynamics are rarely one hundred percent natural - as a society we are the subject of expectations, unwritten norms and scrutiny….

In the light of the ‘Beckham’ feud, attention is drawn to family dynamics which we may or may not relate to: take your pick - finance, fashion, behaviour and image. Should we even care?

Are exposed explanations and social media reveals a healthy way to express oneself when there are deep upsets, friction and virtual question marks popping up? What has happened to heart to heart chats and possible mediation opportunities which are well out of the headlines….

Perhaps the difference is not made as being born in the headlines may bring with it some heavy emotional baggage displaying parts of life which are usually kept personal and private. Do these ‘breaking news’ stories make you want to read more? Is Brooklyn Beckham a courageous young man for expressing himself in relation to his parents or is he a spoiled rich kid making a point?

Every family has issues at one time or another so why should we focus so much on this conflict? Probably because it hits home more than we think - there is the mother in law side of the story with facial expressions showing tension and maybe hostility.

There is a clear power struggle as apparently ‘Brand Beckham’ lives on millions as opposed to billions and could this cause the unbreakable couple some feelings of inferiority or angst?

So Brooklyn wants to go his own way and so did Prince Harry but surely the people who raise you cannot have messed up on all levels…. There must be something to salvage, something to regain.

The sense of self we possess is built from so many factors and influences but if Brooklyn considers ‘the family image’ to be his parents priority then this corresponds with what we see and read - seeking camera perfection and enjoying the long awaited knighthood which makes Mrs Beckham a ‘lady’.....

Did they have their priorities wrong or are they simply grieving the loss of their son? Already we can see the mockery show online - dancing mums and insulting manipulations. Their firstborn is blissfully happy in the company of another - does it sting hard?

Let’s not forget the unfortunate divorce statistics - could mother and father be concerned about the brand they worked very hard to achieve and fear future financial tug of wars?

A young couple with the typical amounts of stress can face challenges which floor them but add this particular recipe - is it for disaster? Power shifts have ocurred and often with power shifts there comes 'fumes' and we can clearly see that both women are furious in some of the footage. What will they do with that inner rage, will they change the narrative?

Brooklyn has been complimented for simply posting on instagram where there could have been an opportunity to raise attention and exploit an article instead. Maybe the ultimate aim is to secure peace for himself and his wife, to have the freedom to be his real self and shine through other purposes in life far from the camera.

Being born into money does not mean happiness, we have known this for a long time however being privileged can set people apart - are they slightly removed from the world as it is or in a tight bubble which may burst. The way and route of life takes us from our parents, hopefully with a toolbox to get by further along the line.

When it comes down to it we are all surviving trauma, disputes and upsets but probably without the price tag attached.
