The Struggle with Love and Life
Jeremy "Why does high school start so early?" my best friend, Zoey, protested. "I mean they are always getting on us about getting sleep, then they make us get up at like one o'clock in the morning! I think I'm going to write to the president or something!" Zoey exaggerates like that almost all the time, but I've learned to ignore it. The thing that bothers her the most is getting up early. She gets herself so worked up about it. She's like the Grouch in the morning then at night she turns into Animal from The Muppets!

The ONLY Time My Mother
I lived in a trailer park, not proud to say, but it was somewhere my mother thought would be a good place for us to live; plus it was her idea for "doing her best" for what little she had. It was just her and I. I was 5-years-old, long black hair, dark eyes, olive toned skin. I got a few verbal shots fired at me for being a "mixed" kid and lucky for me, I had no idea what that was. I was always dirty, playing in mud after a rainfall or running through the cornfield in bare feet not giving a care in the world about ticks or snakes.

I Am Guilty
Being guilty of falling into the trap that is judgement is inevitable; eventually a thought will cross our minds that make us ashamed and guilty. Parents try to raise their children not to judge a book by its covers because you don't know what is inside, but it happens and we become guilty. Living with two little boys who struggle every day has taught me that judgement is everywhere and no amount of mental preparation will ever be enough to manage all the stares and questions tossed around. I often think of how tired I am of explaining the issues and difficulties these young boys face to absolutely everyone; it breaks my heart even more when I see them struggle to understand that they aren't the same as other children. One day I'd simply like to say, "hey, these are my brothers and they are pretty awesome."

The Magic Ride
The Magic Ride Adria sat on the floor with her picture books spread in front of her. Adria loved to learn new things and loved books. Her all time favorite was a book about the city of Paris. Ever since she was a pipsqueak it was one of her favorite places. She dreamt of being able to go and see Paris’s greatest attraction the Eiffel Tower. She believed deep down in that big heart of her’s that she would somehow get there one day.

My Sacred Place
Now a barren land, with no life; once was a prospering road filled with the laughter and joy of kids playing all together. It’s now a skeleton road and neighborhood, no young life out and about running and riding their bikes down the street. The older family, like my great grandmother although their spirits young and full of life, their bodies aren’t so young, and can’t necessarily take long and extensive walks because their limbs can’t carry that type of pressure as often anymore.
