My Son, My Hero: A Living Testament (Pt. 1)
Every first time mom envisions their delivery day to be easy and full of joy (after the actual birth, of course). The joys of holding her baby for the first time, attempting to breastfeed (or bottle, if she prefers), and all the attention from family and friends. No first time mom imagines anything bad will happen beyond a terribly long and uncomfortable labor and delivery. For me, it was no different, except that my labor and delivery lasted no more than five hours... such a blessing that was, too. My birth plan included doing it without drugs, but my contractions were so close together that I wasn't dilating. My nurse encouraged me to get the epidural before it was too late, even had my mom talk me into it, and I gladly accepted as I barely had time to breathe between contractions. The thought of not dilating and prolonging this pain was worse than the idea of not being "brave" and doing it naturally. Everything else about the birth of my son, however, was anything but normal.

Dear Mom
Dear Mom, We didn’t always have the perfect relationship. There were times where I had nothing but disrespect and hate towards you, but you still loved me unconditionally, no matter how mad you were. You showed me what unconditional love is. I’ve learned a lot from you, whether it was how to make Christmas cookies, or to walk away when my love wasn’t reciprocated. You have always been there for me. You’ve been the shoulder I cry on when life gets too much for me. You’ve been the one that I go to when I don’t know what to do. I can’t thank you enough for what you have done, and given up for me.

My Life, My Choice
I lay here in the dark listening to my lovely fiancé snoring and light breathing, watching his chest rise and fall, although not wanting to close my eyes as not wanting to miss a second of this lovely meaningful night. So I pulled the cream fluffy comfy blanket over him so he wouldn't notice me leaving. As the whole house begins to fall into silence, it's as if the spirit of the house was watching over us, making sure that everyone was safe so that no harm could ever come to those it was protecting.
