The Wisdom of a Single Mom
So this week one of the most prevalent subjects between my friends and I, has been the utter chaos of putting our kids to bed on time. For years, this has been a struggle. Not just for myself, as I mistakenly believed, but for all parents. Imagine my joy at finding out I am not the only mother who after wrestling with the horrid, mundane routine of fighting with my kids to stay in bed, and giving in to extra tv time or tablet time just so they stay in bed, only to have them stay up an extra 3 hours. Last week, I decided I had reached my breaking point. I was too stressed, too moody and out of my element. I felt like I was failing my kids and myself. So, I sat down one night and reached out on Facebook to other moms and some of my friends, about what their kids bedtime ritual looked like sometimes. And so was born the greatest week of my life! I actually love bedtime with my kids now. I can schedule work and class assignments around it. Armed with this extremely important information, I feel, no-I know, I must share it with all parents. I know that everyone has different schedules or routines for their kids and it may need to be adjusted for your particular lifestyle.

Where The Brolgas Dance
Crunch and rumble. That is a sound that I didn’t know that I missed. It is a sound that marks the end of the sealed road and the start of the dirt track that lines my Nan’s farm. The tyres of my car no longer securely placed on the asphalt but having to content with the variable landscape into which we venture. There is no crunch or rumble in the city it is all smooth and metallic, polished to a sheen to appease the mass hypochondria that settled upon the world in what felt like overnight. Don’t go outside into the big bad world, strangers with strange illnesses will infect your lungs, if they don’t infect your mind first. You must get your food delivered by a man who’s face you can’t see behind his safety mask. Crunch and rumble. Like the dust in my rear-view mirror, the rules of the city, once so abrasive to take in, are now behind me and begin to settle.

My Little Sister
The day my sister Mollie was born she was bought back into the hospital because she was having seizures which they then did tests to try and find out what it was and what the reason was to her having the seizures. She was home within 24 hours and she kept jerking and my mum turned to full parent mode and just thought she was cold so they wrapped her in a blanket then the jerking stopped and that all my parents thought it was. A few minutes later tho, it happened again, and again, and again. But then she kept touching her mouth the exact same way, over and over again, they knew something wasn't right. It was like she was in a time loop where if she did something it would just repeat the exact same way.

The Day the World Stopped
"Oh today is gonna be another busy day for me, so pick your sister up from school for me" I yelled to my half-awake daughter as I hurried out the door. I had to leave home an hour before my scheduled arrival time because traffic was always hectic during the week and I had to stop to get breakfast. I have this routine down packed, I have been running this rat race for years. I was headed to get breakfast and listening to Steve Harvey in the morning. I felt the side eyes as I laughed at Nephew Tommy and his prank call. People were so uptight they didn't value a good laugh anymore. I didn't care though, I needed my daily dose of laughter to make it through the day. I ordered my usual breakfast and some how was able to squeeze breakfast, morning car meditation, and a prayer call all in on my forty-five minute commute to work.
