Walking Four Miles When I Was Six
When I tell people I walked four miles a day to attend school when I was six years old and living in Mississippi, they usually roll their eyes and say “sure” as if to say, “I don’t believe you.” My mother and father were teachers who insisted their children get a “proper schooling.” As the nearest parochial school was two miles away from the tiny four-room house the eight members of my family were crammed into, walking to school became de rigueur. No matter the weather condition, my four older siblings and I walked to school – over twenty miles a week round trip. I would have liked to ride a bus to school, but the parochial school did not bus kids at the time.

Leather Jacket
The air in my parents’ attic carried the scent of our family, of decades spent in the house built on what had once been an orchard. It was the must of old books, the brightness of elderflower tonic, the funk of cucumbers pickling in the kitchen. It was the condensed aroma of our life together, and I would have bottled it if I could have. Sitting on the unfinished wooden floor, surrounded by my father’s possessions, I struggled to keep my mind from wandering through days gone past. Mementos from events I hadn’t thought about in years passed from their cardboard prisons into my hands and then to their assigned piles, sometimes with ease, sometimes only through the grace afforded me after several minutes of pondering.

Ancestral Gifts
Ancestral Gifts I grew up with little in the way of family. My mother grew up in foster care, and my paternal grandmother passed before I was born. While I knew my paternal grandfather, he lived far away; I only saw him once or twice a year. The only child of only children, I was often alone and became self-reliant. I knew there would be no one else I could depend upon in life, so I looked to myself for answers.

Treasure Hunt
When the events in this story were about to happen, Bo wondered what had gone wrong with his life plan; especially because everything was “fine”. He had a comfortable life and a healthy family, a good job and no debt. But the feeling that something was missing would not go away. Life was okay, but extremely boring. Nothing was wrong, yet his life felt dull. There was a constant pit in his stomach. Probably too much gluten, he thought.

The Love Of Parents Continues To Shine For Dan Levy
I'm not quite sure whose star is becoming brighter lately - #DanLevy or that of his parents, Schitt's Creek co-creator #EugeneLevy and his wife #DeborahDivine. Don't get me wrong; it's clear that all the accolades that Dan Levy has received and continues to receive are very much deserved, and they don't give the coveted #SNL hosting spot to just anyone. However, his parents are gaining quite a bit of traction online thanks to their unabashed love of their son.

Pop's Little Black Book
After the last mourner had left the wake, Kellee knew it was time to tearfully go through the remnants of two lives that had spent over fifty years together. There wasn’t much, as Pops and Gran had been quite frugal. I guess growing up during the depression had instilled in them to hold on to every dollar. They lived simply and may not have appeared to have much, but they were rich in Love and Family.
