Joyce Carol Died and Went Unnoticed For More Than Two Years.

t was an English woman whose death went unreported for more than two years as her body lay uncovered in her north London bedsit. Prior to her death, she had severed almost all ties with people who knew her. In 2001, she resigned from her work and entered into a domestic abuse shelter.

Consider this: you go into a cluttered apartment, with heaps of unopened mail at the door and a sink full of dishes. The television is on and there is a pile of wrapped Christmas presents waiting to be mailed out.

This was the state of Joyce Vincent's apartment when inspectors from a north London housing association entered it. Vincent was also there. She was, however, nearly unrecognizable. Her body was mostly deteriorated, having been deceased for more than two years.

Joyce Carol Vincent resided in a bedsit in London, which is a type of social accommodation in the United Kingdom. On January 5, 2006, officials arrived at her flat to confiscate it due to overdue rent. However, it is believed that she died in December of 2003.

With the cause of death firmly established, just one question remained: how could someone be dead for two years and no one notice?

Nobody deserves to die and go undiscovered for several years, but it seemed especially weird that no one seemed to realize Joyce Vincent had died. She was 38 years old, had worked for the majority of her life, had family and friends, and was not known to be on drugs or have legal problems.

Vincent was the only member of her family who lived in the UK

Carol Morley, a filmmaker, was so taken with Vincent's tale after hearing about it in the news that she decided to make a documentary about it called Dreams of a Life. In doing so, she sought out persons such as Vincent's ex-boyfriends and former coworkers who could shed light on her tragic demise.

Martin Lister had dated Joyce Vincent for three years and kept in touch with her sporadically until 2002. He only learned of her death when he saw Morley’s ad for people connected to Vincent. The revelation shocked him as he told Morely that she was a hard worker who had great jobs.

Lister was also surprised that she had been living in public housing.

“You look back and think, I wish I’d asked more, wish I’d understood more,” he told Morley.

As more people came forward with information, it appeared that her life was shrouded in mystery.

She lived a secluded life

Joyce Carol Vincent, born on October 19, 1965, in London's Hammersmith district, worked for the big accounting company Ernst & Young until she departed in 2001 without giving a reason. Colleagues told varying stories concerning her departure. Some claimed she was going with a group of 20 individuals, while others claimed she had been recruited for another position.

It was also found that Vincent spent time in a home for victims of marital violence between her departure from the firm and her death.

In terms of family, she was the youngest of five sisters, but the only one who lived in the UK. Her father was a carpenter, and her mother died while she was little.

Joyce Carol Vincent had seemingly separated herself from her family in the years leading up to her death, owing to the guy she had chosen to date.

While the period of time that passed after Joyce Vincent's death remains perplexing, it's become evident that the life she appeared to lead didn't always correspond with what was going on beneath the surface.

It's a story of irony and coincidence. In this day and age, when everyone is so connected, the thought that an apparently ordinary individual might be dead for nearly two years without anyone questioning it seems absurd.

At the same time, just as people like to post their best photos on social media, Joyce Vincent may have done the same in real life. Nobody was aware of what occurred behind closed doors.

Vincent was an asthmatic patient. Even though the cause of her death was not specifically determined; it is believed she possibly died from asthma attack.
