Check Out these Kid-Friendly, Quarantine-Worthy Netflix Series

And none of them involve tigers or meth!

Netflix is chock full of new for 2020

If there's one thing we've learned this year, it's that some heroes don't wear capes. Some don N95 respirators and wear scrubs. Some drive our necessities all over the world, making sure we get plenty of toilet paper. And some stock our shelves. However, there's one hero that might have been overlooked. One we watch, sometimes, all day and all night.

Get ready for the superhero landing...wait for it...it's Netflix!

The streaming service is there for us when we're sick, newly single, newly double and ready to chill (boom chica wow), or just need to binge our favorite show. In these trying, COVID-19 filled times, Netflix has a virtual unending escape from the real world, and it just keeps letting awesome new shows loose. Here's lookin' at you, Tiger King.

Feast your eyes on these five new shows, you lovely quarantined masses.

1. The Big Show Show

[Netflix]

From WWE Studios comes this family comedy starring Paul Wight as himself, or at least a fictional version of himself. A former Wichita State University basketball player, Wight is the known in the ring as Big Show, who, like many a wrestler before him, has also gone onto star in movies and television shows. In his new show, he plays a father and husband who's taken on the challenge of his life; raising three daughters with his wife. In a day where no "family friendly" show seems to rival what Full House once was, The Big Show Show seems like it's going to be an even better watch than Fuller House.

Allison Munn of One Tree Hill fame co-stars as his wife, with young up-and-comers Lily Brooks O'Briant and Juliet Donenfeld starring as their daughters. Big Show's teenage daughter, played by Reylynn Caster, comes to live with them, and hilarity ensues. Also hailing from Wichita, Kansas, you might recognize Caster as Brie from American Housewife and Nori from Me, Myself and I, where she appeared alongside It's Jack Dylan Grazer and Jaleel White. White also stars in The Big Show Show.

The smackdown starts with season one on April 6!

2. The Letter for the King

[Netflix]

While watching both the first and second National Treasure recently on Netflix, my two daughters (new show idea: an aerospace designer from the Bible Belt and his two daughters...never mind) saw the preview for this show, and it really peaked their interest. I'm not surprised; the show has a kid, his friends, swords, fighting, and a perilous mission. What's not to love?

The Letter for the King showcases a young cast, lead by Amir Wilson as Tiuri, the young hero tasked with delivering, well, you know. Wilson is pretty new to Hollywood, but his short resume includes 2019's The Boy Who Would Be King, and a reimagined The Secret Garden, coming this year. Hopefully, to theaters.

Letter's cast (found here on IMDB) is full of relatively unknown actors and actresses, but included in that list is Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, who actually starred in the TV mini-series National Treasure. As I just found out, if you're a fan of the Nicolas Cage movies, that show is NOT the same thing...wow.

This adventure is on Netflix now, so starting binging!

3. The Last Kids on Earth

[Netflix]

Zombie fever has hit the animated world, and young Jack Sullivan and his friends have to save said world. Proving that all of Hollywood just might have seven degrees of separation with Reylynn Caster (see #1 above), the voice of Jack is played by Nick Wolfhard. You might recognize that last name from the worlds of Stranger Things, It, and the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Nick is the brother of Finn Wolfhard, and his character, along with his cartoon buddies, fight off zombies after the world is ravaged by monsters.

Based on the book by the same name, Last Kids premiered last year with an hour-ish long movie, and season 2 starts this year sometime. Reports vary, but it should be between 6 and 10 episodes long. The star-studded voice cast should draw in the viewers, both young and old; Bruce Campbell, Mark Hamill, Rosario Dawson, Catherine O'Hara and Keith David lend their pipes.

4. Raising Dion

[Netflix]

The joys of writing articles like these are many; probably the best part is finding a show you must start binging, and now. Raising Dion is at the top of that list. Its title elicits thoughts of drama, crying, and a sappy story about a singing orphan. This show is 100% not that. There IS a widowed mother, but this mama is raising her son, Dion, all the while trying to get a grip on his mysterious developing superpowers.

Dion is played by Ja'Siah Young, who will also be starring in the upcoming Nicole and O.J., as the Simpsons' son Justin. Shadowhunters' Alisha Wainwright is his mom Nicole, with Jason Ritter also appearing. Michael B. Jordan, no stranger to the superhero world, plays a duel role as executive producer and star, as Dion's deceased father.

Season 1 aired last year, and should hold you over until season 2 arrives sometime this year!

5. You vs. Wild

[Netflix]

This one just looks like an ocean of fun. Mountains, wild animals, freezing temperatures...the famous adventurer Bear Grylls has taken it all on. In this show, he lets you, the viewer, decide his fate. In true "Choose Your Own Adventure" style, there are 8 episodes of letting us tell Bear where to go. Alas, there's no word yet on a second season being made.

I doubt there will be any situation where you can actually cause the demise of the star, but I'm sure many viewers of the show have tried. This one might also require a device of some sort to watch; it's doubtful the selection feature is compatible with all televisions. So, sit back, relax, and tell Bear that yes, it IS okay to try and sneak by that hungry looking bear!

There you have it--five choices to help pass the time in quarantine, if you run out of board games or reach the end of Facebook. Enjoy, and stay healthy!
