Essentials to Qualify

Educational Qualification to be eligible for GATE Physics Exam:

- Third year or more of undergraduate degree in any discipline of any recognized institute or university or any other qualification recognized by the board as equivalent thereto.

- Additionally, applicants have to have done Physics as one of the subjects in their graduation course.

No Bar on Age

One of the major advantages offered by the GATE Physics eligibility criteria is that it has no bar on the upper or lower age limit and people of all ages are accepted.

International Candidates

GATE is also open to international candidates from nations such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and the UAE. Such candidates with a B Tech degree in Engineering, Technology, or Science from an accredited university or who are in the third year of such programs are eligible to apply.

Documentary Evidence of Eligibility

Candidates who intend to apply for GATE 2025 will need the following documents as evidence of eligibility:

Degree certificate/Provisional degree certificate issued by the competent authority.

Provisional certificate issued by the HoD for the final year students.

Application Procedure

Applicants who are qualified to appear in GATE Physics paper may apply online via GATE official web page. There is an application procedure to provide personal information, educational qualification and uploading all required documents mentioned above.

The application fee for the general category is approximately ₹1800, though females and the reserved category get reduced fees.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

There are 65 questions in GATE Physics for a total of 100 marks, and it is administered for a time of 3 hours. It has MCQs, MSQs, and NAT questions.

The GATE Physics syllabus can be found under the following nine heads:

1. Mathematical Physics

2. Classical Mechanics

3. Electromagnetic Theory

4. Quantum Mechanics

5. Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics

6. Atomic and Molecular Physics

7. Solid State Physics

8. Electronics

9. Nuclear and Particle Physics

General Aptitude carries 15% of the total marks and core Physics carries 85%.

The students preparing for GATE Physics can follow these tips while getting prepared:

1. Know the Syllabus: Make an acquaint with every portion of the syllabus and based on weightage, give more importance to the topics.

2. Plan for Studying: Organize the pattern you follow for all your subjects.
