  1. Prophet Adam (A.S.) is the first human being and the first prophet of Islam. His story, narrated in the Qur’an, is not just a historical account but a deep spiritual lesson. It tells us about creation, free will, repentance, the role of Satan, and the purpose of human life on Earth. Through this story, we learn about the mercy of Allah, the consequences of disobedience, and the path of redemption.
  2. The Creation of Adam (A.S.)

Allah Almighty, the Creator of all things, decided to create a human being to act as His vicegerent (Khalifah) on Earth. He informed the angels of His plan:

“Indeed, I will place a successor upon the Earth.”

— Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:30

The angels responded with concern, asking why a being would be created who might cause corruption and shed blood, while they were always praising Allah. Allah replied:

“Indeed, I know what you do not know.”

Allah then created Adam (A.S.) from clay gathered from different parts of the Earth, symbolizing the diversity of mankind. He shaped Adam and breathed into him His spirit. Adam (A.S.) became a living being, honored with special knowledge and intellect. Allah taught Adam the names of all things—something the angels did not know.

Then, to demonstrate Adam’s superiority in knowledge, Allah asked the angels to name the objects, but they couldn’t. When Adam named them correctly, Allah said:

“Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth?”

— Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:33

The Command to Prostrate

After showing Adam’s knowledge, Allah commanded all the angels to prostrate before him as a sign of honor—not worship. All the angels obeyed, but Iblis (Satan), who was among the jinn, refused. Out of pride, he said:

“I am better than him. You created me from fire, and You created him from clay.”

— Surah Al-A’raf, 7:12

Because of his arrogance and disobedience, Allah expelled Iblis from Paradise and cursed him forever. Iblis asked for time until the Day of Judgment to mislead mankind. Allah granted him time but warned him that he would not be able to misguide Allah’s sincere servants.

Life in Paradise and the Forbidden Tree

Allah placed Adam (A.S.) in Paradise and later created his wife Hawwa (Eve) from him for companionship. Allah told them:

“O Adam, live with your wife in Paradise, and eat freely from it wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.”

— Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:35

They were allowed to enjoy everything in Paradise except one tree. This was a test from Allah to see if they would obey His command. However, Iblis began to whisper to them, suggesting that eating from the tree would make them immortal or turn them into angels.

After repeated temptations, Adam and Hawwa eventually gave in and ate from the forbidden tree. Immediately, they became aware of their nakedness and began covering themselves with leaves.

Allah addressed them:

“Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is your clear enemy?”

— Surah Al-A’raf, 7:22

Repentance and Forgiveness

Adam (A.S.) and Hawwa (A.S.) realized their mistake and turned to Allah in sincere repentance. They said:

“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.”

— Surah Al-A’raf, 7:23

This heartfelt dua (supplication) is a model for all believers. Allah, being the Most Merciful, forgave them. However, as part of His divine plan, He sent them down to Earth. This marked the beginning of human life on Earth.

The Descent to Earth

Allah said:

“Descend, all of you, from it (Paradise). You are enemies to one another, and for you on Earth is a place of settlement and provision for a time.”

— Surah Al-A’raf, 7:24

Thus, Adam (A.S.), Hawwa, and Satan were sent to Earth. Adam was appointed as the first prophet. He was given guidance and laws to teach to his descendants. Human life, with its tests, responsibilities, and opportunities for growth, had begun.

Lessons from the Story

The story of Adam (A.S.) is rich in wisdom and offers many important lessons:

The danger of arrogance – Iblis was cast out of Paradise for his pride. We learn that arrogance is a major sin.

The reality of free will – Humans have the ability to choose between right and wrong.

Shaytan is a clear enemy – His mission is to mislead us, just as he misled Adam and Hawwa.

Obedience is essential – Even the smallest act of disobedience can have serious consequences.

Repentance brings mercy – No matter how big a sin, sincere repentance is always accepted by Allah.

Earth is a test – We were created to live on Earth, worship Allah, and be tested in our de
