The Proud Peacock
Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there lived a magnificent peacock named Percy. Percy was the most beautiful bird in the entire jungle, with shimmering blue and green feathers that sparkled in the sunlight. His long, elegant tail feathers fanned out in a dazzling display of colors whenever he danced.
But Percy had one flaw—he was incredibly proud. He believed that his beauty made him superior to all the other animals. He would strut around the forest, looking down on everyone, especially the plain and humble birds like the sparrows and crows.
The Forest Gathering
One day, the animals of the forest decided to hold a grand gathering to celebrate the beauty of nature. Birds of all kinds—parrots, eagles, owls, and even the tiny hummingbirds—were invited. Percy, of course, was the center of attention. As he spread his feathers and danced, the other animals clapped and cheered.
Flattered by their admiration, Percy puffed out his chest and said, "No one in this forest is as beautiful as I am! Look at my feathers—they are like jewels! None of you can compare!"
The other birds exchanged uneasy glances. The wise old owl, who had seen many proud creatures in his time, shook his head but remained silent.
The Humble Sparrow
Among the crowd was a small, brown sparrow named Sammy. Unlike Percy, Sammy was plain in appearance, but he had a kind heart and a cheerful song that brought joy to everyone who heard it. Seeing Percy’s arrogance, Sammy flew up to him and said, "Percy, your feathers are indeed beautiful, but beauty alone does not make one great. True greatness comes from kindness and humility."
Percy laughed loudly. "What do you know, little sparrow? You are dull and ordinary. No one even notices you!"
Sammy simply smiled and replied, "Perhaps not, but I am happy with who I am."
The Storm and the Lesson
A few days later, a terrible storm swept through the forest. The winds howled, the trees swayed violently, and the animals scrambled for shelter. Percy, with his long, heavy tail, struggled to fly. His beautiful feathers were drenched and weighed him down.
Desperate, he flapped his wings but could not rise above the trees. "Help me!" he cried as the wind tossed him around.
Just then, Sammy the sparrow flew toward him. "Hold on, Percy! I’ll help you!" Despite the strong winds, Sammy guided Percy to a hollow tree where they could take shelter.
Inside, Percy shivered, his feathers soaked and tangled. He looked at Sammy with gratitude and shame. "Why did you help me? I was so unkind to you."
Sammy replied, "Because kindness is more important than beauty. We all have strengths and weaknesses. You may have the most beautiful feathers, but even they can become a burden in a storm. What matters is how we treat others."
A Change of Heart
When the storm passed, Percy emerged a changed bird. He no longer flaunted his beauty or looked down on others. Instead, he used his voice to sing along with Sammy, bringing joy to the forest. He even helped smaller birds build their nests and protected them from danger.
The animals noticed the change in Percy and respected him even more—not for his feathers, but for his kindness.
The Moral of the Story
Pride can blind us to our own weaknesses, while humility opens our eyes to the value of others. True beauty lies not in appearance, but in a kind and generous heart.
From that day on, Percy the peacock remained the most beautiful bird in the forest—not because of his feathers, but because he had learned the greatest lesson of all: true greatness comes from humility and kindness.
The End.
