The Deceptive Wolf

Lies may win once, but truth wins always.

By Shahzad KhanPublished 9 months ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, there lived a cunning wolf named Fenrir. Unlike other wolves who hunted fairly, Fenrir believed that trickery was the easiest way to get what he wanted. He would often lie and manipulate others to satisfy his hunger.

One day, Fenrir spotted a plump rabbit named Remy nibbling on fresh carrots near a burrow. His mouth watered, but he knew chasing Remy would be difficult since rabbits were swift. So, he decided to use deception instead.

The Wolf’s First Lie
Fenrir put on a friendly smile and approached Remy. "Dear friend," he said sweetly, "I come in peace. The other animals have sent me to invite you to a grand feast in the meadow. There’s plenty of food for everyone!"

Remy was suspicious. "A feast? Why haven’t I heard about it?"

"Oh, it was a sudden celebration," Fenrir lied smoothly. "All your friends are already there. Come quickly before the food runs out!"

Tempted by the thought of a feast, Remy hesitated but finally agreed. As they walked, Fenrir led him toward a dark part of the forest instead of the meadow. Sensing danger, Remy suddenly stopped. "Wait, this isn’t the way to the meadow!"

Before Fenrir could react, Remy dashed into a nearby thorny bush and escaped. The wolf growled in frustration but soon came up with another plan.

The Wolf’s Second Trick
The next day, Fenrir saw a young deer named Daisy grazing near a stream. He pretended to limp and groaned loudly. "Oh, help me, kind deer! A hunter’s trap has injured my leg. Please, guide me to safety!"

Daisy, being gentle-hearted, felt pity. "Of course, I’ll help you," she said, stepping closer.

But as soon as she was within reach, Fenrir pounced! Luckily, Daisy’s mother, who had been watching from a distance, let out a loud warning cry. Daisy leaped away just in time, and Fenrir was left empty-handed once again.

The Animals Grow Wiser
Word spread quickly about Fenrir’s tricks. The rabbit, the deer, and other animals warned each other never to trust the wolf. Frustrated, Fenrir realized his lies weren’t working anymore.

Then, he spotted an old tortoise named Taro slowly making his way across a path. "This one can’t escape," Fenrir thought greedily. He approached Taro and said, "Respected elder, a terrible storm is coming! Let me carry you to safety."

Taro, wise and experienced, saw through the wolf’s deceit. "Thank you, but I prefer to move at my own pace," he replied calmly.

Fenrir, losing patience, snarled, "Fine! If you won’t come willingly, I’ll eat you right here!" He lunged—but as he opened his jaws, Taro quickly retreated into his hard shell. Fenrir’s teeth clanked painfully against the shell, and he yelped in pain.

The Truth Reveals Itself
Humiliated and hungry, Fenrir limped away. Meanwhile, the animals gathered and decided to teach him a lesson. They set a trap using a fake trail of food leading to a deep pit covered with leaves.

The next morning, Fenrir, desperate for a meal, followed the scent blindly. CRASH! He fell into the pit, howling in shock. The animals surrounded him.

"Now you see, Fenrir," said Taro, "your lies worked at first, but truth always wins in the end. We know your tricks, and now you’re trapped by your own greed."

The Wolf’s Redemption
Stuck in the pit with no way out, Fenrir realized his mistakes. "I’ve been foolish," he admitted. "Lies only brought me temporary gains, but truth lasts forever. If you spare me, I promise to change."

The animals, seeing his sincerity, decided to give him a chance. They helped him out, and from that day on, Fenrir hunted honestly. No longer hated, he earned the trust of the forest creatures.

Moral of the Story
"Lies may win once, but truth wins always."

Fenrir’s deceit gave him short-term success, but when the truth came out, he lost everything. Honesty, though sometimes harder, brings lasting respect and trust.

The End.
