Day 1 of Korean in 80 days
This is part of "Learning Korean in a Jiffy" where I attempt to become speak-ready for an upcoming trip to South Korea. It's T-80. Previous attempts at learning Korean (hi, Duolingo survivor here) did not result in me saying a single word of it when I lived in Jeju last year. After the trip, I keep saying that I'll learn but I just bought tickets to Seoul with my sister and we fly in a little over two months. This is me hauling my ass to the study table and being accountable.

Tutor or Teacher: Who Should You Choose to Learn Effectively?
The teacher represents structure. They are formally trained, know the rules and exceptions, understand the history and logic of the language. A teacher provides a traditional and reassuring framework, usually based on textbooks, clear learning objectives, and long-term plans. Teachers are great if you’re preparing for an exam, aiming to certify your level, or looking for an academic foundation. They correct you, they test you, they guide you along a pre-defined route.

Why Language Coaching Outshines Traditional Teaching
Learning a language has never been more accessible—and yet, paradoxically, never more misunderstood. Most people still believe they need to sit in front of a teacher, open a textbook, repeat verbs, memorize rules, and do grammar exercises. And yet, after years of schooling, many still can’t really speak. Not fluently. Not with confidence. This gap between knowledge and actual use explains why more and more learners are turning to a more human, more effective, and more realistic method: language coaching.

The Classroom Without Walls: How One Village Redefined Education
M Mehran On a dusty road in a forgotten valley stood a single tree that changed everything. Its branches stretched wide, casting a cool shade on the earth below. Beneath it sat a dozen children on straw mats, their notebooks balanced on their knees, eyes locked on the man who had turned this patch of ground into a classroom. His name was Master Rahim, and though his “school” had no walls, no desks, and no chalkboard, it became the most powerful place in the village.

Why Teaching Abroad Feels Both Like Running Away and Running Toward Something
There’s a peculiar tension that comes with the idea of teaching abroad. On one hand, it feels like a leap into the unknown, a way to escape routines, expectations, or even the invisible weight of a life that’s become too familiar. On the other hand, it feels like chasing something — growth, adventure, understanding, connection — a deliberate step toward a future that is bigger than ourselves. For me, imagining that life is both a thrill and a quiet terror.
