I am a 1st year sophomore at Oregon State University in the undergraduate physics program, many people believe I have everything figured out, but I don't. I don't really think anyone knows exactly what they want to do with their lives. We all seem to just be floating on a river directed toward a waterfall and we just have to coast along making the best of our ride until we meet our demise. Our decisions may lead us on different paths but we all end up with the same fate, riding down that dang waterfall. I originally wanted to double major in business and fine arts, but I fell in love with physics my senior year of high school. School is probably stressful for everyone, not only is it a big financial investment, it is a lot of time and effort. It's a huge stressor, you decide to study something that you might end up hating which wastes time and money, It's difficult. I am on the same boat.

RIP Summer Internships

Pruning the Beast
In my early thirties, I threw out my bathroom scale. I could no longer tolerate the daily measuring of my weight—up a few pounds and my mood turned dry and cracked, like an old desert father’s skin, for the rest of the day. Down a few pounds and I suddenly though I was Cindy Crawford. After twenty years of measuring my worth through the size of my body, this was a game I could no longer tolerate and gone it was. As long as I fit in my favorite pants, I’m good. If I can’t button them, something needs to change.

I’m at the wrong school
I am a big golfer and so that played a large part in where I went to school. I didn’t play the kind of tournaments that I needed to to get on a big school’s D1 roster. Despite this I had a strong reputation as a great player in my home town. This led to countless D3 offers from coaches thinking they found a diamond in the rough. I wanted to play college golf so bad so I chose to go to one of these smaller D3 schools. It was the liberal arts school just down the road from my high school. I was never excited about the decision to be honest, it was just my next school, and it wasn’t the big school that I wanted. On top of this my dad has bullied me out of living on campus. I was going to live on campus, and every time I brought it up to my dad he threw a fit until he said “you’re going to school right down the road. Don’t be dumb. If you live on campus I’m not guaranteeing your loans”. He is going to buy me a car which will be similar to paying for room and board so obviously this is all just a power trip for him.
