Summer Session Is Behind Me! Now On To Fall Semester!
Why did I agree to keep teaching? What is wrong with this picture sister?
I love to give all A's. That never happens. There is a points system. Just turn in the assignments in my class and get an A. Well, not everyone cares if they get an A or have time to turn in all their assignments or, or, or!
All those or's and more!
I want the students to get the information. And if their answer is not correct or they are missing something, I make a correction.
I will put in the comments what could be helpful for the student to know. I can see how much they have gotten through the posted material, as the program does show.
I love the feedback and the kind words about the class they shout out.
I offer a bribe of bonus points for telling me what they learned and what they would like to know more about or something we didn't cover that they would like to hear about.
The bonus could mean enough points to move to the next higher grade. The difference between a B- and a B is the trade.
I have a possible replacement for teaching the class I am teaching now. Mary, please take a bow.
I love to find the perfect person to take my place when I leave a position if I have that say. We shall see if, and or when we find out, it may even be today.
I teach Substance Use and Native Americans each semester. I probably teach more about substance abuse and counseling Native Americans, however. This class is hosted by the Human Services Department.
The class serves as a diversity class requirement so that students from other areas can take this to meet that requirement.
I have learned from the students while teaching this class. I require research for the class on the most recently published research on the topic to pass. The last part is a joke, folk. They can skip the research and still pass the class. I'm rhyming this, did you notice?
If I don't have enough to say about the topic, I can submit it to the category poet! That helps me with my use of rhyme and I can still use it for fill, do you see it?
So even though I enjoy teaching the class, I take on too much and have to leave something behind. I really thought it was just one semester as a fill in of some kind. No, I am starting a new year. It is Fall Semester starting in August again I hear.
The interaction with the students is my favorite part. It doesn't happen much as it is an online, independent study class and I need to start. It doesn't take much time to get ready as I just need to finish the syllabus for this semester.
This means I need to sequester!
To get the syllabus done. The class is on August 20th, 2022, the first day of this one.
Movies are assigned, and other material for class, a quiz and a final on class objectives, storytelling, and two books that are all you ever wanted to know about Native Americans and another on counseling Native Americans is another thing.
I think there may be too much writing required but no one says anything. Several papers are expected. One student turned in a PowerPoint rather than a paper and I accepted it. When you don't see a student in class it is difficult to see if they are getting the material or if it is a fit.
That is why the program has a design to see when students are in class checking. And to see how much material they are covering.
So, the bottom line is that I will do my best to find another, better-trained teacher and move on with other things, once I have time. I taught general psychology and that was more difficult than this but I was a lot younger then (notice no rhyme).
A friend referred me for this position and it is okay, just not my thing. What is my thing? Face to face with people. I never took an independent study class or taught one before now. When students struggle, it is tough to help when I don't know what the struggle is about.
