The System
If I had a longer life, I would devote it to changing the education system. Now, this isn't about me believing I don't have the time or the power to do this, it is about discussing the possibilities of change and at the very least, empower those who feel defeated in school.

School Ruined My Love for Writing That I Didn't Know I Had
I’m going to school for creative writing. Poetry, actually. Why? Don’t ask me that. Growing up I was always in a reading program. Why? Well, my parents are Hispanic and I guess the school just assumed that they only spoke Spanish, therefore making me illiterate. That’s my only guess. Could be other reasons, but who really knows. After constantly being taken out of class to be timed on how fast I can read the dumbest short story, anything that involved reading or writing kind of freaked me the-fuck-out.

Guide to Get Through High School
Starting with 9th Grade (Freshman Year) It's your first day of high school; in some places, you are still in junior high school or middle school. DO NOT BUY A BUNCH OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES for the first day. If your school has a summer bridge program take full advantage. It is like summer school, but you take two classes: a math, and an English. This gets you ready for the material you will learn. You also take a test that will determine what level you are on. When you get to high school on the first day, you will go to all of your classes. Each one of those teachers will give you a list of supplies that they want for their class specifically. They will expect you to have these supplies before the second week of school. Go shopping on the second or third day of school just in case your school does "block" scheduling. A "blocked" schedule is when you go to all of your even periods on one day, and the next day you go to all of your odd periods. Usually, each class would be two hours. Without a block schedule, you go to every class every day and each class is about 55 minutes. Most schools have one day in the week where you get out of school early, and the teachers and staff meet after school.

My Time School Hopping
Long story, but I have the time so I might as well write it all down. I'm from Toronto but I decided to go to school in Huntsville, Alabama after high school. It was a small (under 3,000) person, historically Black, extremely religious school. I was raised religious but I don't really identify like that anymore. I chose the school because two of my cousins went there and loved it, and my uncle teaches down there. I also wanted to get away and try something new. The school that I went to was an HBCU. An HBCU is a historically Black college or university. Basically, when education was segregated and Black people weren't allowed to go to regular schools, these were the schools that were founded by Black people for them to go to. I had only gone to all White schools and going to a school where I would be around other Black people sounded really fun. So I packed up my bags and moved into the dorms.

Why We Need Holocaust Education Now More than Ever in America
The New York Times recently reported that the Holocaust is fading from memory. 31% of Americans and 41% of millennials think that under two million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. Try 6 million. And 41% of Americans and 66% of Millennials don't know what Auschwitz was. Woof. And 52% of Americans don't know that Hitler was democratically elected. It sounds like a lot of people just aren't getting a Holocaust education at all! What they know about the Holocaust they know from popular culture osmosis. They might as well get their facts from Indiana Jones. YOU CAN'T SURVIVE A NUCLEAR BLAST IN A REFRIGERATOR!

What this one is about, as you could probably tell by the title, is what you need to know when you are at or leaving for college. The first thing I’m going to be talking about is what you would need for your dorm (for girls and then boys). Following that, I am going to talk about how to make friends easily. Lastly, the third and final thing I am going to talk about is how to develop good study habits.

Conquer Kindergarten, Part II: Math. Top Story - August 2018.
In my previous article I described different ways parents can prepare their child for Kindergarten when it comes to literacy. Obviously, math is another skill students will work on throughout their entire educational career, and it begins in Kindergarten. As a Kindergarten teacher, I noticed many students were somewhat unprepared when it came to some math topics. There are many things a parent can do with a preschool aged child to give him or her a good base when it comes to math. Here are my suggestions on how to prepare a student to be a successful math student early on.

Sorority Life
What do you think when you hear a woman talk about being in a sorority? Do you think, “oh she’s a partier, oh she is shallow, she obviously doesn’t care about her studies." If you do you may think like most people, however it’s not true in most cases. Sorority women are more than just the letters they represent. They are about their sisterhood, school, community, and philanthropies. Most of these ladies hold some of the top GPA’s on their campuses, and are the leaders in discussion in the classroom. For many of these sorority ladies, joining was more about the bonds than it was about the recognition of letters.
