Why I Chose to Attend a Small University
One of the most stressful decisions in my life was choosing a college. It was around the end of my junior year that I was constantly asked what college I was attending (or thinking about attending) and what I planned on studying. For a period of time, I had my sights set on the University of Michigan, mostly because my dad and older sister went there. It wasn’t until I started touring more campuses and researched more colleges that I realized what I was looking for in a college.

Teaching Abroad in France
It was a little brown envelope stamped from l’Académie de Bordeaux that beckoned me abroad to France, where I was invited to teach for nine months. It arrived in Spring. I had just written my last final at Concordia University and was unsure of how to get started in the world as a graduate of Creative Writing, so I looked into teaching abroad. I was bilingual, France was looking for teachers, the choice seemed easy.

Why I Quit My Dream Job
I can remember standing in my parent's basement smothered in wood panelling and orange shag carpet with a dry erase board and my second grade math homework. I can remember lining all of my stuffed bears and hippos and whatever else into a strategic seating chart so they could all see the board and I could walk around "the classroom" to ensure each student was on task. I assigned homework and stayed after school to plan for the next day or at least until dinner was ready. Teaching has been my dream since I was cognizant of the fact that a career was possible for me.

New Beginning
In 2016 I decided to go to college. It was something I hadn't accomplished yet and I wanted to do it but life kind of got in the way. So I moved to Florida with my kids and saw a commercial for Full Sail University. Yeah, there were other colleges I could have attended but Full Sail University offered online classes and that's what appealed to me. I'm Bipolar and have ADD, and claustrophobia and agoraphobia so a classroom setting was not ideal to my learning style.
