Global Innovation and Entrepreneurial Synergies: A Transformative Experience at ASEP in South Korea
The global startup ecosystem is continually evolving, with nations learning from one another to shape their entrepreneurial future. As the Founder of Tkawen, I had the honor of participating in the third cohort of the Algeria Startup Exchange Program (ASEP) in South Korea. This invaluable experience deeply transformed my understanding of innovation, collaboration, and how to scale businesses globally.
Phase 1: Laying the Foundation at Algeria Venture
Our journey began with an intensive three-day training program at Algeria Venture, where we explored crucial topics to prepare us for success on the global stage:
Korean Business Culture: Understanding how cultural nuances and professional practices shape interactions in Asia.
Investor Engagement Strategies: Perfecting our pitch techniques to attract funding while focusing on sustainability and value creation.
Global Market Dynamics: Tailoring Algerian startup strategies to meet the demands of global markets, especially the competitive Korean landscape.
The training concluded with an insightful meeting with Algeria’s Minister of Knowledge Economy and Startups, who reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a thriving innovation ecosystem. This set the tone for the rest of our journey in Korea.

Phase 2: Engaging with the Algerian Embassy in Seoul
Upon arriving in South Korea, we were warmly welcomed by the Algerian Embassy in Seoul. In an engaging session, we presented our vision for Algeria’s entrepreneurial landscape, discussing future potential collaborations between Algeria and Korea to empower startups. This interaction emphasized the importance of international partnerships in fostering innovation.

Phase 3: Discovering the Startup Ecosystem at Incheon
At Startup Park Incheon, one of Korea’s largest and most renowned startup incubators, we had the opportunity to showcase our projects to a panel of experts, receive invaluable feedback, and immerse ourselves in cutting-edge technologies. This experience inspired us to integrate advanced technological solutions into Tkawen Innovation & Technology to further strengthen our offerings.

Phase 4: TECHNOVALLY — Building a Robust Ecosystem
Next, we visited TECHNOVALLY, Korea’s premier startup hub, where we gained deeper insights into how ecosystems are built. Workshops with investors and entrepreneurs emphasized the importance of the synergy between government policies and private sector initiatives. This approach is a model that Algeria could replicate to create a sustainable and innovative environment for startups.

Phase 5: POSTECH University — Bridging Academia and Entrepreneurship
At POSTECH University, a global leader in STEM education, we collaborated with Changeup Ground, a startup accelerator that provides mentorship programs. This interaction expanded our perspective on scaling innovative ideas, offering us unique academic insights into the entrepreneurial process.

Phase 6: Exploring the Future of AI at Seoul AI Hub
A visit to the Seoul AI Hub exposed us to groundbreaking AI applications in fields such as healthcare, education, and smart cities. The experience underscored the importance of technology partnerships, as we explored potential collaborations with global tech giants like Samsung and LG.

Phase 7: Networking at COEX and Robot World
At COEX, Asia’s largest exhibition center, we networked with over 20 startups from China, France, and Korea, laying the groundwork for international collaborations. Our visit to Robot World, which showcased the latest advancements in robotics and AI, emphasized the critical role these technologies will play in shaping future industries.

Phase 8: Strengthening Algeria’s Ecosystem
High-level meetings with Algeria’s Ambassador to Korea and Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, President of the People’s National Assembly, allowed us to discuss strategies to advance Algeria’s digital economy. Their commitment to supporting innovation reaffirmed Algeria’s potential on the global entrepreneurial stage.
Phase 9: Workshops with Dr. Dahou Abdurrahman — Fostering Competency
Dr. Dahou Abdurrahman, a leading economic expert, conducted workshops on balancing technical and managerial skills. His insights into youth empowerment and capacity-building are critical for Algeria’s vision of creating a knowledge-driven economy, one that prioritizes sustainable growth.
Phase 10: Cultural Immersion — Embracing Traditions and Innovation
The cultural aspect of our trip was just as enriching as the business aspect. From visiting the historic Changdeokgung Palace to enjoying Korean cuisine at Namdaemun Market, we immersed ourselves in Korea’s vibrant culture. Wearing the traditional hanbok in Seoul’s cultural village symbolized the intersection of history and progress — an embodiment of Korea’s global success.

Key Takeaways: Lessons for Algeria’s Entrepreneurial Future
South Korea’s success is based on a triad of technology, government support, and relentless innovation. Incubators such as Startup Park Incheon and TECHNOVALLY are more than just physical spaces; they are ecosystems that provide startups with mentorship, funding, and infrastructure — an approach that Algeria should adopt.
For Algeria to emulate South Korea’s success, we must:
Develop World-Class Incubators: Build integrated hubs that mirror Korea’s support systems.
Strengthen Public-Private Partnerships: Encourage collaboration between the government, corporations, and startups.
Invest in Youth and Technology: Focus on STEM education and digital infrastructure to empower the next generation of innovators.
