Daab Chao Ram a system of Krabi Krabong wielding mainly Thai single and/or duel swords (“Daab”, Thai single edge sword). This system was created at Ramkhamhaeng University Thai Weaponry Club by the various students of the numerous sword schools from all over Thailand who compiled their knowledge, skills, and experience which lead to the creation of “Daab Chao Ram”. Daab Chao Ram “Daab” meaning sword, “Chao” meaning lord, and “Ram” is the birth name of King Ramkhamhaeng or Por Khun Ramkhamhaeng Maharaj. His name was changed to Ramkhamhaeng after winning an elephant fight against Khun Sam Chon. All of them together can mean either: 1) Sword of Lord Ram, 2) Legion of Lord Ram, or 3) Might of Lord Ram (meaning might differ from person to person). The name was chosen to commemorate Por Khun Ramkhamhaeng Maharaj for his bravery in battle that earned him the nickname “Khamhaeng” meaning, bold.

Since Daab Chao Ram is a rather newly developed system. It lack the mythical lore of mighty generals, long line of lineage of renowned swordsmen or schools, leading to Daab Chao Ram practitioners are often criticized by other practitioner from a more traditional schools or lineages for not being an authentic lineage.

Daab Chao Ram is known for it's:

Low and wide stance

Low and wide stance (similar to lunge but with both legs spread out to the side) is needed to maintain proper balance of the torso since the arm now is extended through the holding of the sword in each hand. Moreover, by being in a low and wide stance, practitioner automatically load their legs ready for the next pouncing either forward or backward.

Explosive footwork

With the low and wide stance, each steps that were made, either forward or backward, will cover alot of ground. And with the already loaded legs, the force generated from the leveraged leg is massive thus, allowing the practitioner to perform a sudden explosive movement like sudden evasion, abruptly pouncing forward, or leaping for the devastating falling finishing blow.

Heavy hitting

Unlike most Krabi Krabong system that emphasized swiftness, slashing, katas, and light training, thus leading to a fragile body structure that cannot withstand too many blows and weak attack. Daab Chao Ram emphasize a slightly slower hitting but with more force. Combining it with the explosive footwork, all attacks that was executed will generate a lot of power since, practitioner will be tossing in their body’s weight along with the attack as well. Against opponents who were not trained to receive heavy blows, a few of of these hits will demoralize their fighting spirit.

Effective against multiple opponent

Backward slashing is performed simultaneously along with the forward slashing. When performing a forward slashing, the torso of the practitioner naturally twisted in order for the forward slashing hand to reach its target all the while the other hand slashes backward with the intention to either keep distance from the opponent, to block an incoming attacks, or to attack.

Aside from all the application of Daab Chao Ram, practitioners are always reminded by their instructor that due to the compiled nature of Daab Chao Ram, one must always remember that it is ok to let go of what are not useful for what that are. This way, practitioners will not be stuck with irrelevant beliefs or outdated practices that could hinder growth or worse, create false confidence.
