A Little Horse Walks Across The River

One day, A horse mother let his little son to mill flour，so the little horse carried two bags of wheat and left home, this is his first time going out, so he was walking happily.

There is a river and the flour-mill is on the other side, when the little horse came, he found there was no bridge over the water.

What would the little horse do? He looked at the flowing water, it’s moving quickly, he got confused and a little bit afraid.

Little horse saw an old cow eating grass on the bank, so he asked him, “Uncle cow, is the water deep? Can I walk across it?”

“Not at all,” the cow said calmly, “it’s just as high as my lower legs, you can go across it easily. there is no danger.,”

The little horse was very happy when he heard the cow’s words, but when he was ready to go across the water, a squirrel rushed out from a tree, he was hurry and confusion, the little horse’s action was too dangerous, he must stand up and stop him, so squirrel shouted to little horse, “Little horse, what are you doing? Are you trying to walk across the river?”

“Yes, I need to go to the flour-mill, it’s on the other side,” little horse replied.

“Are you out of you mind? Do you know how deep the river is? You will get drowned, one of my friends got drowned a few days ago and he died, it’s too dangerous, you can’t walk across, you must take a detour,”

Little horse hesitated, “But Uncle cow said the river is not deep, it’s safe to walk across,”

Squirrel got angry and shouted, “Do not listen to him, my friend’s death was caused by him, he is a stupid cow,”

The little horse drew back his legs, he is at a loss what to do, he had to go back to ask his mother what to do.

When his mother heard his story, she laughed and said to him, “My child, it’s not enough if you only listen to the others. you must try it by yourself, it’s the only way to find the truth,”

“But it’s too dangerous, I will die,” little horse dissatisfied, ”there is only one chance,”

“Everything has risks, you need to face, you need to try,” said horse mother patiently.

Horse mother saw his son still had concerns, so she encouraged, “At least there won't be any danger at the edge of the river,”

“I know how to do,” little horse seemed to understand his mother’s means.

The little horse came back to the river again, when he put his legs in the water, the squirrel cried out again, “Little horse, it’s dangerous, you can’t do that!”

“Let me have a try, this is the way,” little horse said firmly.

Little horse walked carefully across the river, he found the water was neither shallow as the cow had told him nor deep as the squirrel had described, but anyhow, he can walk safely, the process was thrilling, but it's worth it.

After witnessing little horse successfully reached the other side of the river, Squirrel was just so stunned, he didn't understand what happened, he just saw the cow shook his head slowly from side to side.
