Withthegrid, Backed by Venture Capitalist Rajat Khare, Scales Energy Infrastructure Monitoring Across Europe
CleanTech / Green Technology

Founded in 2016, the Dutch energy tech firm is ramping up innovation, expanding its advisory board, and securing critical partnerships to address the growing need for real-time infrastructure monitoring.
Netherlands-based Withthegrid, a fast-growing energy analytics company, is stepping up its mission to deliver cutting-edge infrastructure monitoring and energy management solutions. As global energy demands surge in the face of accelerating climate change, the company is actively expanding its operations, forming strategic alliances, and enhancing its leadership.
Founded in 2016, Withthegrid specializes in secure, real-time monitoring technology for infrastructure assets. Its solutions are trusted by grid operators, energy producers, and utility users to gain actionable insights into energy usage and asset performance.
Strategic Moves and Board Expansion
In a move to bolster its strategic direction, Withthegrid has added two influential names to its advisory board — Sophie Dingenen, a partner at international law firm Bird & Bird, and René Raaijmakers, a seasoned executive with leadership experience in several major energy corporations, including Groendus. Both bring a wealth of knowledge in energy law, renewable strategies, and global partnerships.
Their involvement is expected to help Withthegrid strengthen its financial foundation, target niche energy markets, and establish collaborative relationships with industry leaders.
Collaborations to Drive Renewable Integration
Withthegrid’s expansion includes partnerships with key players in Europe’s evolving energy landscape. It has teamed up with Tibo Energy, a company known for managing assets such as heat pumps, EV charging stations, and battery storage to reduce network congestion using smart forecasting.
Additionally, Withthegrid has partnered with Scholt Energy, a company focused on optimizing the use of renewable and industrial flexibility. The collaboration enhances the ability to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end energy transition solutions.
Another major deal includes an agreement with Vattenfall, one of Europe’s leading electricity and heat providers. Withthegrid will provide its Realtime Interface at four Vattenfall locations, enabling instant insights and improved energy coordination.
Advanced Product Lineup
Withthegrid currently offers two flagship products:
- Asset Monitoring Platform – Designed for grid operators to monitor critical infrastructure and detect anomalies in real-time.
- Teleport Gateway – A smart solution allowing asset owners to maximize the flexibility of their energy systems, including solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries.
These innovations support organizations in making data-driven decisions, reducing operational costs, and enhancing sustainability.
Scaling Beyond Europe
Paul Mignot, Co-founder & CEO of Withthegrid, shared the company’s vision:
"Our focus is to continue expanding across Europe and explore opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). With the global shift toward renewable energy, our goal is to scale our technology to meet the rising demand for sustainable and efficient energy solutions."
Backed by Visionary Investment
The company’s growth has been significantly supported by investments from Boundary Holding, ROM Utrecht Region, and a circle of seasoned industry experts and venture capitalists. Combined, they’ve invested over EUR 1 million into the company.
Boundary Holding, a deep-tech investment firm based in Luxembourg, led by venture capitalist Rajat Khare, recognized the potential of Withthegrid early on. Their 2021 investment enabled the company to commercialize its technology and scale development in AI-based anomaly detection and energy infrastructure monitoring.
Khare noted, “Europe’s green future hinges on reinforcing our energy infrastructure. Real-time monitoring solutions like those developed by Withthegrid play a crucial role in optimizing resource allocation, improving efficiency, and enabling energy producers to respond quickly to system demands.”
The Case for Real-Time Energy Monitoring
A recent report by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) highlighted the value of real-time energy systems, estimating a savings of $13.5 million over contract terms—driven by a 41% reduction in energy usage and a 3,100-metric-ton cut in annual carbon emissions.
Supporting data from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) reveals that continuous energy monitoring can result in a 10–20% reduction in energy use. IBM also reported a 30% energy savings in its data centers through its own real-time and predictive analytics system.
A Call to Action
With rising temperatures and increasing energy needs, real-time infrastructure monitoring is no longer a futuristic idea — it’s a necessity. Companies like Withthegrid are proving that with the right technology, partnerships, and vision, the energy transition can be accelerated without compromising reliability or sustainability.
As climate change continues to drive urgency, the world needs more agile and scalable solutions like Withthegrid to pave the way toward a resilient energy future.
