We Are All Connected

Mitochondria Eve and Y Chromosome Adam

Yesterday, by pure chance, while surfing the net, I came across an article that was in some ways quite revelatory. It was all about how every woman's mitochondria are the same, going all the way back to Eve. And, it is the same for men, all men's Y Chromosomes are identical and go all the way back to Adam.

About two and a half million years ago, somewhere in South Africa, there were just two people, Adam and Eve. And this loving couple produced offspring, that produced offspring, that produced...you get the idea. What this means is that all women really are sisters and all men are brothers. Now that is one hell of a family, all eight billion of us!

It means that Adam and Eve are all of our great, great, great,...ad infinitum grandparents. However, what it does not explain is where Adam and Eve came from. Who in the world gave birth to those two?

It is claimed that God made Adam, and Eve was made from Adam's rib. However, that has not been scientifically proven. So whilst the mitochondria and Y chromosome claim works for me, I am still at something of a loss about where the happy couple came from.

I personally have a theory that Adam and Eve were outcasts from another planet, maybe from a galaxy trillions of light years from the planet Earth. But that is not something I can scientifically prove either. However, if what I suggest is true, then that would mean that if aliens do exist, they would look exactly like us.

The other intriguing aspect of that claim that we are all directly related to Adam and Eve is, how then do we account for the significant differences in how we look, physiognomically?

I, as a male Caucasian European, look nothing like a Chinese or Japanese person. And none of the aforementioned look anything like a black African. So how do we account for those physical anomalies, if we can call them that without causing offence to any of our brothers and sisters?

At one time I had the idea that we are all from different planets around the cosmic system and somebody did a round-robin pick-up and a one-stop delivery to this planet. This would be a bit like some sort of intergalactic, multi-planetary, Noah's Ark. But that still leaves me with the problem that all men and women are basically, genetically, and biologically, the same!

Let's take a delve into something called the Big Bang theory. Scientists state that about 14 billion years ago there existed a point, which they call singularity. This they say was an incredibly dense point, smaller than an atom, that contained all that went toward creating not only all organic life, but also all matter across the entire universe, stars, planets, galaxies, and even space itself!

If this is the case, then that means that we are all very closely related, whichever way you slice it. Now our religious friends claim that it was God who made the heavens and the earth, and everything in them. Well, if we can say that that point of singularity was what religious people call God, then the world of science and religion are in fact very close bedfellows.

Coming back to the claim that we are all direct descendants of mitochondria Eve and Y chromosome Adam, it occurs to me that the Big Bang, Or God if you prefer, left the creation of the human race a little under-resourced. To only have produced one couple was leaving things an awful lot to chance. What if that couple had been killed before they got the chance to pro-create? Then one presumes there would not have been a human race at all. And then where would that leave us?

Given that the creator was capable of replicating the creation of galaxies, stars, and planets on a massive scale, then there is no reason why he, she, or it would not do the same with humans. That is to say, that we are in fact not all the offspring of one singular male and female couple. Surely there would have been more than sufficient material to make a variety of different versions of human beings, all with the same mitochondria and Y chromosome, but with slight differences in other parts of their DNA. That would go some way to explaining the wide variety of physiognomic characteristics.

At this point, upon reflection, I feel I am getting a little out of my depth. And then, pondering on the past of the creation of everything, suddenly I had what you might call an epiphany. I came to the conclusion that it had sweet damn all to do with me, and so I got back in bed and went back to sleep. Goodnight.
