Water: Our Lifelong Friend

Hello friends! You probably already know me. Whenever you feel thirsty, I am the one you turn to. I am there when you wash clothes, clean utensils, and most importantly, when you want to keep yourself clean. Yes, I am your close friend and an essential part of your daily life. You simply cannot live without me, which makes me extremely important to you. Since I am so valuable, you must take good care of me. Never waste me, and never let me get polluted.

I flow through rivers, fall from the skies as rain, and dominate the vast oceans. I cover around 71 percent of the Earth’s surface, yet most of my water is salty. That means, unfortunately, you cannot drink most of me or use me in cooking directly. Out of all the water on Earth, only about 2.1 percent is fresh and suitable for drinking. So yes, I am indeed precious!

Recently, I learned something that made me very happy—scientists have discovered ways to turn salty water into fresh water. Imagine that! In just 30 minutes, seawater can be transformed into water safe for drinking. This breakthrough was crucial because my fresh water reserves have been depleting steadily. Experts estimated that by 2025, around two billion people might face water scarcity or may have very limited access to me.

To address this crisis, scientists worked tirelessly to find solutions. One of the most remarkable techniques they developed is called desalination. It’s a simple yet highly effective process. Using solar energy, a special device is placed in salty water. The device heats the water, separating the salt from it, making the water clean and drinkable. An Australian scientist pioneered this method, which is now not only cheaper than traditional ways but also far more efficient.

This means I can now serve you even better. I can provide water not only for drinking but also for agriculture, industries, and even for growing vegetables. It’s amazing to know that countries like Australia, Singapore, Morocco, China, the United Kingdom, and Canada are now using me wisely and efficiently, ensuring that I am preserved while meeting their needs.

However, there is an important caution to remember. Desalination produces a byproduct called chemical brine, which must be handled very carefully. If brine is dumped back into the oceans carelessly, it increases the salt concentration of the seawater and poses serious threats to marine life. So, while I am abundant, using me responsibly is crucial.

Friends, my message to you is simple but important: water is everywhere around the world, yet you must use me thoughtfully. Practice conservation and efficiency whenever you use me. Every drop counts, and if you take care of me, I will remain your faithful companion throughout your life.

Remember, I am not just a resource—you could say I am a friend who supports life itself. From quenching your thirst to enabling your daily routines, agriculture, and industry, my presence is indispensable. And now, thanks to science, I am more accessible than ever before. Solar-powered desalination means that even the vast salty oceans can help meet human needs, while reducing the risk of water shortages in the future.

So, cherish me. Use me wisely. Avoid wastage. Keep me clean. And share me responsibly, because the world’s life depends on me. Together, if we respect and protect water, I will continue to flow as your loyal friend, nurturing life for generations to come.

In short, water is priceless, and its wise use is the key to a sustainable future. I am here for you, and with careful stewardship, I will remain a constant friend in your life—supporting health, growth, and life itself. Let’s make sure I am never wasted, never polluted, and always available, so that everyone can benefit from me now and in the years to come.
