A Place of Wonder and Discovery

But the Cave of the Neighbor is more than just a beautiful place. It's also a place of mystery and intrigue. Legend has it that the cave is home to a hidden treasure, guarded by a fierce djinn. Some say that the cave is a portal to another dimension, while others believe that it's the entrance to a lost city.

The Call of Adventure

Whether you're a seasoned explorer or a curious traveler, the Cave of the Neighbor is sure to stir your sense of adventure. So what are you waiting for? Gather your courage and embark on a journey to this hidden oasis. Who knows what treasures you might find?

The Cave of the Neighbor: A Journey to the Depths of the Egyptian Desert

Deep in the heart of the Egyptian Sahara, lies one of the oldest caves in the world: the Cave of the Neighbor. Plunging more than 50 meters below the surface, this hidden gem offers a glimpse into the ancient history of this unforgiving landscape.

Located in the middle of the Western Desert, between the Bahariya Oasis and Asyut Governorate, the Cave of the Neighbor can be found in the Farafra Oasis, near the Wadi Mahraq. Just 7 kilometers east of the White Desert Protected Area, this remarkable site is a must-see for any adventurer or explorer.

A Descent into a Lost World

Descending into the Cave of the Neighbor is like stepping back in time. The air is cool and still, and the only sound is the echo of your footsteps. The walls are lined with intricate carvings, telling stories of a long-forgotten civilization. As you explore the cave's many chambers, you'll find yourself marveling at its natural beauty. Stalactites and stalagmites hang from the ceiling like frozen waterfalls, and the walls are covered in a kaleidoscope of colors The landscape of formations of various shapes and sizes hanging from the cave ceiling is one of "the most beautiful you can see with your eyes", as cave formations are geologically defined by sedimentary basins.

As for the history of Neighborhood Cave, it was discovered by German Gerhard Rolfz, in 1873, during his journey through the Frafra Desert to reach the Libyan Kafr oasis. On that trip, Rolfz's guide took him to a place called "Neighborhood", where the cave is located and the entrance to the cave takes the form of a small hole on the surface of the limestone plateau, where the cave is situated.

Neighborhood Cave was created as a natural result of the fresh water and dry desert climate over millions of years. It is also different from all caves in the region in its formations and unique sedimentary shape, and the heights of sedimentary formations reach 3 or 4 feet. When visiting Neighbourhood Cave, it is advisable to bring a light to be able to see the sediments.
