RAINBOW A rainbow is a natural optical phenomenon that occurs when white light is refracted, or bent, through water droplets in the air. This refraction causes the white light to split into its component colors, which appear as a spectrum of colors arranged in a specific order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet (ROYGBIV). The colors are always in the same order, with red on the outermost part of the rainbow and violet on the innermost part.Rainbows are typically seen when there are raindrops in the air and the sun is shining. The light from the sun enters the water droplets and is bent, creating the rainbow. Rainbows can also be seen in the mist of waterfalls or fountains, and even in the spray from a garden hose.
