Sustainable, but make it fashion.
Rain, snow, hail, or shine all at once; one girl's Everlane haul for when it's 76 and 42 degrees in New York City all in the same day.
Sustainable fashion is better for the planet. (Duh). Leaning away from fast fashion allows consumers, who care about the Earth, to support ethical brands who do not take advantage of their workers or enforce child labor. While fast fashion might get you in with the fleeting trends, sustainable fashion is made with quality and is timeless.
We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say?
These are the telepathic exchanges happening between my bank account and my Everlane shopping cart at 12:30am on a Thursday. I wish I could say that I chose to spend quarantine becoming my best self, but alas that was NOT the case. AT ALL. Being stuck indoors for most of 2020 I was instead one of those people that found WAY too much comfort in working in their pajamas all day.
Now normally this would not be a non issue if it were not for the dreaded COVID 20. No, I'm not talking about a new strain. I'm talking about ~ blacking out ~ when trying to put on those cute jeans I bought in 2019.
And with summer* 2021 fast approaching, ain't nobody got time for that.
So I did what any reasonable person would do and instead of trying to lose the weight I decided to just buy new clothes.
*Now enter from stage two: Everlane*
For the longest time I've had a love-hate relationship with shopping. People, and I was admittedly one of them, seem to have this pre-conceived idea that shopping sustainably has to break the bank. This is where Everlane comes into the picture ladies! (sorry guys).
At Everlane, they are working hard to do their part by building an ethical supply chain that creates high-quality, low impact, long lasting, and most importantly, fashionable clothing. They've made an environmental commitment to eliminate all virgin plastic from their supply chain by 2021, a goal which they are smashing!
The less is more saying definitely rings true when it comes to their clothing however. The brand is more geared toward people who want to add to or build a 'capsule wardrobe', a mini wardrobe made up of really versatile pieces that you love to dress up or dress down. This allows you to spend more time, money, and energy in the things in life that really matter.
By shopping only a few times a season, as needed, and from a sustainable source, you save money on frivolous items that would normally stack up in your closet and protect the planet at the same time. Here is a quick guide on how to get started on your own sustainable capsule wardrobe:
1. Pare down your closet to already owned, loved, or sustainably sourced 30 items.
2. Wear only those 30 items for three months.
3. Don’t go shopping during the season until…
4. During the last two weeks of the season, plan and shop for your next capsule.
5. The amount you buy for the next capsule is up to you, but less is more.
Next time you find yourself shopping, let the tiny Marie Kondo that lives in your head ask "Does this spark joy and is it sustainable?"
So now without further ado: my Fi-tastic 12:30am-post-quarantine-weight-gain ~ GUILT FREE ~ capsule-wardrobe...
The Organic Cotton Box-Cut Pocket Tee

The Oversized Alpaca Crew

Sourced fibers from a number of small farms across Peru that require all vendors to sign a Humane Treatment & Animal Welfare statement, which enforces Everlane's expectations for the ethical treatment of animals.
The Do-It-All Tote

Its durable knit fabric is machine washable and made from renewed plastic bottles (19 per bag, to be exact).
