In the wake of the day, surrounded by an impoverished neighborhood which cried out from the cracks in the concrete. I realized something had to be done. And I for one couldn’t sit back and just do nothing. With tears in my eyes and a deep burning in my soul to uplift the community around me, it hit me like a dump truck full of old memories labeled as trash. I ran through the house waking up my seven children in a plea of excitement singing “today is the day, today we unit with humanity and pull together as one in an effort to Rebuild the land in which we were created”! As they wiped away the sleep from their eyes while looking at me as though I’d lost my mind, they jumped up with curiosity wanting to know where I was going with all of this!
I didn’t know. However, I was going to put one foot in front of the other until accomplishing the goal at hand. I always had a vision to beautify eye sores in the world. Something had to be done, and it’s up to us as a people to paint the world around us. “Mom, how will we do it?” They asked. “I don’t know, but let’s get it done” I answered. We gathered our garden tools, painting equipment and trash bags and walk out the front door, faced with a task that seemed to only be Accomplishable by a miracle. Hamilton, Ohio (the north side) read about it. Full of drugs, abandon houses, trashed roads, lost children, and sadness. We headed out with a prayer and tools. By the end of our journey, the streets we cleaned, the trees that were once growing over the side walks were trimmed, the neighbors exterior of their homes were painted, we even provide new appliances to the elderly of the neighborhood. And to top it off, the whole neighborhood got involved, they began coming outside with rakes and brooms. It was like a big clean up party happening before my eyes. Even the city council got involved and began to send out cleanup trucks and extra landscaping supplies. I was amazed, in the beginning I didn’t know how we would pull it off. I just knew I had to start, and I did and the outcome was straight from the heavens. If this story never wins a penny yet touch the lives of humanity in a way that moves people to a greater more peaceful environment, then my mission is complete. And that is more valuable than rubies and gold! One thing we must realize, is if we work together great things are possible. We have to learn to put our differences aside and love more. I can just imagine, if the whole world would just stop for one minute, And look around at the beautiful earth that was given to us, we have everything we need and more. Beautiful trees, lakes, rivers, animals, butterflies, sand, rocks, air, food the grows from the earth, and so much more. The earth was meant to serve us. But if we don’t take care of the server who will. We have to care for the earth and each other. If we just take time out of our busy day, and give back to the earth, and the people in it we can live in heave on earth. Why must we wait to die to see heaven when we can create heaven right here on earth. With just a simple act of kindness, with a nice word, with the offering of our hands and a desire to see the beauty the create around us, we can!
