A Cause For Change

By Malik LaFonPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

According to google, as of 2019 there are about 7.67 billion people on Earth. The estimated number of animals range from 10 million to 14 million.Scientist have estimated that there are 390,900 plants known to science.

I know that these are huge numbers. To simplify let's put all these numbers into a single group. This group is called life. The definition of life is:the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.

Life is everywhere.Dogs, Cats, birds,Grass and trees, and humans. All of these are basic examples of life.Even with all these forms of life the human race is on top.Even though we are on top most of us don't realize that we cause most of the problems Earth consonantly faces. These problems include wars, pollution, and sometimes animal endangerment.

We also fail to realize that we get many of our resources from the ocean. The ocean covers about 71% of the planet. With that percentage you would think we would treat our oceans with more care. Without the resources we get from the oceans our way of life would be very different.

The ocean provides us with a wide assortment of minerals. These minerals include things like salt, copper , nickel and iron.We don't get oxygen from only plants. The ocean helps supply us with breathable air .The ocean is also one of our main sources of food.

Like I said before "humans are at the top".That means it is up to us to make a change. The animals can't do it.The plants can't do.The ocean can't do it.Being at the top means you should protect and guide what is below you.You cannot be on top with nothing below you.

It's not hard to join the fight to protect our home. Its so easy to reduce your carbon footprint.Simply unplugging your device when it's not in use saves a lot more energy than you think.

You could also use reusable bags instead of plastic. Not only are they more durable they also hold more.As a cashier I can tell you that reusable bags are much better than the bags the store provides.

Another way to save energy is to hang your clothes on a line instead of using your dryer. Although it is old fashioned and might take longer, it saves 5 times more electricity than using a dryer.

Carpooling is also a great option.Although it is more difficult to have a group of people going to the same place. It is effective when going to work or doctor appointments. It is still good for events like parties or other celebrations. It's also good when going to the store with reusable bags.

While these ideas might make things a little more difficult I think it is important to attempt to make a change.Although it won't help if only one person makes the change. The human race as a whole has to step in to save our planet and our oceans.

In early March of 2020 the World Health organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic.Since then the United States Of America has had a change in leadership.President Biden often talks about "Herd Immunity".This means we get as many people as possible to be vaccinated.

Following this trend, we should fall into something called"Herd conservation."This means the people as a whole has an active part of reducing their carbon footprint.

Think about it like this: the first human ancestor appeared over 7 million years ago. The world was a lot different back then.Even then we went through change. The world and the human race have been evolving since the very beginning have been through several different time periods since the bronze age.We have excelled in science.People have been in space.

All you have to do is walk outside and look.We didn't get here over night.Millions of people worked, cried, bled, and died to make the world live in today.

Although the world is far from perfect, it can still change. We all need to be a part of that movement. Our planet is in need of a change. We need to take the world they gave us and make it better. We have to protect the planet. We must protect our home.
