If a cat is lost or stuck on the roof, here’s what you can do to help safely get it down:

🐾 Step-by-Step Help for a Cat Stuck on the Roof

1. Stay Calm and Keep the Cat Calm

• Speak softly to the cat from a safe distance.

• Avoid loud noises or fast movements that might scare it further up or cause it to panic.

2. Try to Coax the Cat Down

• Place familiar food or treats at the edge of the roof or nearby safe areas.

• Call its name gently and repeatedly.

• Use a familiar scent item like its bed or a blanket near the roof base.

3. Provide an Easy Way Down

• If safe and available, place a long, sturdy ladder or a board leading from the roof to a lower surface.

• Alternatively, set up a tall cat tree, stack of boxes, or even a chair close to the building.

4. Use a Carrier or Box (If You Can Reach Safely)

• If you can safely get onto the roof (with proper equipment and assistance), bring a pet carrier with treats inside.

• Gently guide or place the cat inside.

5. Don’t Climb If It’s Not Safe

• If you’re unsure or it’s too risky, don’t attempt the rescue yourself. Roof rescues can be dangerous.

6. Call for Help If Needed

• Local animal rescue or fire department: Many will assist with pets in tricky spots.

• Roofing professionals or wildlife rescue organizations sometimes assist in similar situations.

The Story:

This should be a little guide in case you will come in this situation. It is not nice to see a cat afraid and crying on your roof. All you want is to help this poor little animal.

It just happend to me, and for sure I made a lot of mistakes. We saw the cat a few hours ago and tried to help her coming down to our balcony.

But the car was very shy, she didn't know us. When we tried to get closer to here she did go away. We tied with some food without success. So we left here alone. We didn't know who the owner was.

A few hours later, the bell rings. Finally the owners.

It still was very difficult, even that she saw her owner with her favorite food. There was no way that the cat was coming closer.

My Neighbor rang the fire department, it would be very costly. Finally my neibors daughter climbed out of the roof window and was able to reach the Cat. It was a little dangerous, but we were lucky.

The Cat must have been climbing from the balkony up to the roof. They are such good climbers, but once they are up in the hights, the can't come down. It might be different with wild cats, but the domestic cats are very scary.

It was a lesson for us all. Hopefully there won't be another time to come in this situation. You never know. But if so, would we do it differently? I don't think so, because mainy we did things right. The one thing I can not agree, was when the girl climbed out of the roof window on the roof. That was when my wife got very scared and panicked. But honestly, I believe if there were another time, it wouldn't be any different.

Hopefuly my neighbor will fix the red on his balkony so that the cat can't escape again. That would be very annoying for us all.
