Look Up: The Haunting Above
A glimpse of the sky reveals a chilling truth
Just have a look around; there is so much to see nowadays.
We often tend to underestimate things around us, failing to appreciate the magnificence around us. In all the marriages, evening meetings, going to or from one’s place of work, walking the dog, carrying out a garbage bag to the bin, outside for a cigarette or simply sitting around a bonfire.
Now comes the sunrise, the manifestation of optimism and reawakening; the light that comes in to dispel the gloom. At times it is simply a blue sky nad a sun that s lowly over time brightens the whole sky. Other times it is exciting, with destructive cumulus clouds which are in the way of the sun’s rays creating an artwork. And sometimes it is sad, like a veil of fog hiding the light with only the promise of its presence. The day begins, the sun rises above the horizon… do you see it? Do you see the birth of day and the interplay of day and night? Or do you simply recognize that the outside is brighter than before – without the aid of the sun, and feel something pleasant. When the sun is setting, do you do so? Or do you stare at the lower descending disc of the sun over the hazy horizon and feel fascinated as the moon appears and shines with borrowed sunlight, only to remind you to get busy as it darkens?
Did you have a chance to gaze at the night sky yesterday? I chuckle because I know how it feels to travel on this road I use all the time and find it too dark. But then I raise my head, and my heart is set free. Within that dark utmost peace and quiet, I feel the winged hosts singing somewhere as I stretch through eternity, a different world. I do not clench my fists in hope of stopping it from sucking me in; I simply spread my arms and the vastness of the cosmos rushes towards me, passing through my body to flow behind me. There is no real quiet, no. The sky is filled with a sound of greatness that one can feel rather than listen to. An exhalation of creation that is so vivid, it blinds. However, it is present as something that pounds your chest like a low-frequency speaker. And that low sound lingers in your system long enough to bring you back to a state of blissful calm, full of love and understanding. Your heart begins to race, beating aggressively now, quicker and quicker. One huge breath later everything is in, the universe is in like some sort of vacuum and eyes shut, colors and lights that move around and past you. You blink as tears begin to form in your eyes and suddenly the fast moving lights have become hazy and dull where there are enormous colored orbs that freeze in position and fly around hoops of lights that reflect off colors in midair. In midair as though suspended, performing slow sober rolls without sound, your heart now stills to an even strong beat and your mind is suffused with vivid color and light. Those feelings return and rage through the now-sober mind and body, the lungs purged as if by Heaven itself. In your chest, your heart swells with an avalanche of emotion and you are invigorated by the crimson hot blood that rushes inappropriately to your vascular system. There is a calm in the breath now and the heart, pleased, beats audibly as a drum.At the very moment you open your eyes, there is a voice in you that can only say one thing; Light and Life are the reasons for being. Strikingly enough, your hands are still outstretched, your gaze still focuses on the indigo sky dotted with sparkling stars, and you are still situated in that part of the world where there are no street or porch lights. To the south of the forest where light comes only from the sky—more so from the stars and slightly also from the moon. Just now, you lifted your head up and embraced the cosmos, loved it, tasted it, owned it.You feel different this time around, but not quite sure how to express it. Wait there… is there a new outlook of the sky? One of the two has either the dark surface blackened or the small shining dots enhanced; brighter. The stars are now adorned with twinkles, with a promise of guarding the secrets shared.
We do not cast our gaze to the skies enough.
