If we compare "water" to "freedom" and "shore" to "constraint", then the "river law" side has evolved into an eternal issue: freedom and constraint.
There is no doubt that we need the unity of freedom and restraint, that we need to follow the law of the river.
The reason is obvious. In the words of philosophy, freedom and constraint, as a pair of contradictions, are opposite and unified. There is freedom and there is constraint, and they are interrelated. Constraint can not be separated from freedom, and freedom without constraint is not freedom. If we want to develop for a long time, we need the unity of freedom month constraint. To visualize it in life, freedom is just like the power of human beings, who create advanced science and technology for the development of society and use the resources given by nature. However, this power is not endless, it always has a constraint and channel its power, this is the law. The ability of man to exercise his power freely is based on respect for law. Without this foundation, unrestrained, there is no room for people's freedom to play, people may only stay in the primitive slash-and-burn exploration without limit, until they find this constraint. To this day, we still follow the "law of the river," consciously following the laws that bind us. So we made laws and regulations and proposed "sustainable development". You can see the power of the river law.
In real life, people always follow the "river law". It reminds me of those tyrants of ancient times, who thought freedom was unlimited, when in fact they were already bound by the hearts of the people. Now, "harmonious society" seems to be in compliance with the "river law". Children are bound by their parents, their rights are bound by the law, and the prince is bound by the people. The law of the river is everywhere.
There are a lot of people or when we are young who think that freedom is against constraint, that you can't be free if you have constraints. Now THAT I think about it, it wasn't. Everything is characterized by contrast. In fact, freedom and constraint exist in correspondence. As mentioned above, they are inseparable. Constraint is to ensure better freedom, and because there is freedom, the existence of constraint is needed. When children want to do what they think is right, parents' kind guidance will be conducive to the growth of children; When someone wants to make use of their own power to do things that disturb the normal social order, they need the strict restriction of law to ensure the interests of the majority of social groups. Therefore, the emphasis on freedom cannot ignore constraints.
However, following the law of the river is first and foremost a matter of degree. Constraints are laws, and freedom is human agency. Therefore, in the implementation of this law, we must not act blindly, that is, in favor of one side or the other. We should build a bank as a constraint to avoid excessive human freedom, but it should not be too wide and too high, or it would become an "above-ground river" and risk bursting its banks. If the bank is not high enough to allow the water to flow freely, the same can not be restrained and channelled. Therefore, the "degree" should seek a balance between them. Secondly, it is the common responsibility of both society and individuals to follow this law, that is to say, the whole society should follow it, and more importantly, each individual in the society should consciously abide by it, rather than force it. In this way, it will be better to grasp the "degree" and promote social development.
There is water on the shore, water free clever water, the shore has broad security. People feel at home in the water, but there will be wind and waves; One feels bound on shore, but one also feels safe. Water and shore, one can not be less, together to build the human "river law".

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
