Black Tipped Dorsal Fin
He was horrifyingly magnificent as he glided just below the surface of the water. I fought the urge to reach out and stroke his dorsal fin and instead refocused my attention on my scuba gear. I tightened the hose down on my tanks and looked up at my diving partner Jamie. He already had all his gear on and was sitting on the edge of the boat, watching me. I blushed with embarrassment and slid the pack onto my back before securing the diving mask onto my face.

A Borrowed Landscape
A Borrowed Landscape - Nature has a way of capturing beauty in myriad ways. Be it a sunset, a coral reef, rugged landscapes, or pristine wilderness, Nature’s obsessions drive her pursuit of her own concepts of splendor and design. In primal and ancient times, waterfalls, rock spires, hallowed groves and virgin forests were maintained and revered as sacred spaces, places where spirits might peacefully dwell. Peoples past understood that intact ecologies were critical to steward the cycles of life.

Hunger
My perception blurs as the cold water flows around me. Eyes dead ahead, watching every movement with eager anticipation. Small fish bump into me, but I pay no attention to their tiny bodies. I can feel the burning need to fuel my body as my insides scream for food.

Plastics
Being a science major is not for the faint of heart. Did you know you could spend three hours a week in a Music Appreciation class and earn three credits, but you could spend three hours a week in a science lecture hall plus an additional four hours in a lab, and earn only four credits? Seriously that is how it works. Sometimes you get the joy of being in a lecture and lab for 7 hours a week and you only receive three credits. Someone seriously needs to reevaluate this system.

Penguin Pullovers
My mother used to have a wise saying about how the world could be a much better place: “Each one, help one.” Mama explained to me that back in the cruel days of slavery, when it was against the law for slaves to read or write; anyone who was able to learn against all odds, was obligated to secretly teach someone else. In our modern times, Mama altered the phrase... Thankfully, there is no longer a need for: "Each one, teach one" (in the majority of the world nowadays); but there is still an urgent need—sometimes a very desperate one—for: "Each one, help one."

THE ENCHANTED FOREST
Remember those fairy-tales where trees could walk, talk and feel? They might be based on real life! I am currently reading The hidden life of trees which feels exactly as Tim Flannery (introducing the book) describes it: a wonderland. The author, Peter Wohlleben works in the lumber industry and manages a forest with the purpose of harvesting it for commercial gain. His insights and his discoveries about trees have shaped the content of The hidden life of trees and reading it, you will feel once again, you do not know a thing about the universe or the world we all live in. At least, that is what I have learned from its teachings.
