June 5th. World Environment Day.

Care for the Earth. Care for each other.

By Antoni De'LeonPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

A world together.

Environmentally one

Hearts in unity.

...

Let colors reflect

Ethnic bonds...Togetherness

All blended as one.

...

Raise your voices high

A toast...peace and love at last

Today...Together!

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 and is led by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). It serves as a global platform to raise awareness and encourage action for environmental protection. Since its establishment in 1972, it has grown into one of the most widely recognized environmental movements, engaging millions of people across 150+ countries.

World Environment Day 2025

- Theme: "Ending Plastic Pollution"

- Host Country: Republic of Korea

- Focus: The campaign aims to tackle the growing crisis of plastic waste, which threatens ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Plastic production has surged from 2 million tons in 1950 to over 430 million tons today, with a significant portion being single-use plastics. The initiative urges individuals, industries, and governments to adopt sustainable alternatives and reduce plastic dependency.

Why It Matters

Plastic pollution has reached alarming levels, with microplastics found in oceans, mountains, and even inside the human body. The UNEP-led campaign encourages global cooperation to phase out harmful plastic use and promote recycling and biodegradable alternatives. This year’s event comes just two months before countries meet to negotiate a global treaty to end plastic pollution.

How People Participate

- Tree planting drives and clean-up campaigns

- Educational workshops on sustainability

- Social media awareness using #BeatPlasticPollution

- Policy discussions to push for stronger environmental regulations

Want to know how you can get involved? 🌍

Great question!

There are plenty of ways to get involved in World Environment Day, whether you're taking action locally or raising awareness online. Here are some ideas:

1. Take Action Locally 🌱

- Organize a clean-up in your community—parks, beaches, or city streets.

- Plant trees or start a garden to help combat climate change.

- Reduce plastic use by switching to reusable bags, bottles, and containers.

- Join or support an environmental organization working on sustainability initiatives.

2. Spread Awareness 📣

- Post on social media using hashtags like #WorldEnvironmentDay and #BeatPlasticPollution.

- Host a discussion or workshop to educate people about environmental issues.

- Write to local policymakers to advocate for stronger environmental regulations.

3. Make Personal Changes 🌍

- Cut down on waste---opt for sustainable, zero-waste products.

- Eat sustainably by choosing locally sourced, plant-based foods when possible.

- Switch to eco-friendly transport---walk, bike, or use public transport.

4. Participate in Official Events 🏛️

- Check the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) website for global events.

- Attend local or virtual webinars on sustainability.

- Join environmental petitions pushing for stronger laws and reforms.

Even small steps can make a big difference! Thinking about trying any of these? 😃

🌿 A World Worth Saving 🌍

sky so vast and wide,

rivers dance amidst forest's shade,

planet breathes, world so bright,

light fading, it cries for help

oceans sing, their waves embrace,

threatened...as plastic chokes

their endless space...Confounding

trees once stood in mighty cheer,

Now whisper low, “We disappear.”

But hands can plant, and hearts can mend,

The earth still waits for us, my friend.

let our every step, with every choice,

give the silent world a voice.

So raise your hands, lift up the call,

Protect this earth, one home for all.

in the air, the sea, the ground,

A future waits...let hope resound!

Let's celebrate the planet today and every day!

🌿🌱

Even small steps can make a big difference! Thinking about trying any of these? 😃

Whispering green leaves,

Rivers dance in golden light,

Earth sings soft and true.

I recycle everything, still it never seems enough, but we do what we can. This is a great reminder to join hands to preserve our home. Some people still listen and do try. happy environment day.

  • Thank you for sharing and we don;t have a backup Earth despite what the space circus riders say . Excellent story

First off, I am a recycler from way back for even in high school I joined an ecology club for several years and we had roadside cleanups, but the sad thing was when we were done the next day it seemed people just threw their trash out the car windows and such. Your story is quite informative and well thought out and the poems were perfect.
